Buying a Wildcard at the KNP gate.

Unread post by jing » Mon Mar 28, 2016 4:45 am

Hi guys,

I'm visiting KNP for 7 nights in May and intend to get myself a wildcard.

I come from overseas so I'm wondering if I am able to apply for one as I arrive at the gate itself? Right now I'm planning to enter either via Malelane Gate, or Croc Bridge Gate. Will these gates be able to process a wildcard for me? or do I have to purchase membership online? The website says that "you will be able to purchase membership at select gates and parks on arrival."

Thanks!

Hi jing, my family always buys their wild card hen they arrive. If my memory serves me, you will pay when you book into your camp. Everything is computerized, so the process is usually smooth.

Enjoy your trip. :gflower:

jing, you will be able to purchase your wildcard and pay at the entrance gate provided they are on line which did happen to a member of our party.

Hi - We are buying our WildCard when we get to Skukuza Airport/Camp. Does anyone know if you can pay for it with a Debit Card or must it be a Credit Card.
Thanks in anticipation.

Just as a point of information, I believe that overseas debit cards are NOT accepted anywhere in South Africa. Since I don't actually everr (even at home) use a debit card, I don't have any personal experience, but I'd advise doublechecking on this to be certain.

My UK Debit Card has always worked all over South Africa in the normal ATM machines. I also don't get charged overseas fees, because the one I have is exempt. (Only a few UK cards are exempt from overseas fees)

Spending 6 months of the year in SA for the last 7 years, it would have been very costly if I couldn't do this.

I know the mini ATMs usually do not accept overseas Debit Cards, but unless the rules have recently changed, the big normal ATMs should accept them.

Of course I can only speak for UK cards, and my current card is a Visa Debit Card.

Hope that helps.

Val, overseas debit cards DO work for ATMs, but apparently NOT for purchases. Have you ever used yours to make a purchase?

No Arks I haven't.
I always use my Credit Card (also exempt from fees) for purchases.
I just use the Debit Card for cash withdrawals in the ATMs.
