Wild Card Increases

Unread postby Sandybabe » Tue Oct 07, 2014 10:04 pm

Dose anyone have any idea of whether the Wild Cards will be going up after the end of this month and if so by how much? We will be looking at an International Wild Card for visiting Kruger next year and wonder whether to buy it now or wait till we arrive. Can anyone help?

I will ask the question.
Want to say Thank You or Well Done to a fellow 'mite? Why not nominate them for a Kudu?

Today is the 28th October and there is still no price available on the wild card which increases on 1st November. Cannot understand why they do not include the new prices in advance on the Wild Card site so everyone can see it.

If your wildcard is about to expire, consider renewing in the next 10 days, as, if there is a price increase, it usually comes into effect on 1 November.

Nice to see the foreigners' card for couples hit 3000 rand, and we are still forced into only one option.

It's a shameless rip-off. :naughty:

Kind regards,

Adam

I rather agree with Adam, the R250 increase for a single international traveller is a 15% increase, which seems excessive to me. Is it 15% across the board? Perhaps we need our own #feesmustfall campaign?

It is understandable for there to be complaints about the increase in Wild Card fees - we wouldn't be human if something that affects our pockets is not resented. However, the Saffies have perhaps a more legitimate complaint in that 1) their fees' increase is not diluted by currency depreciation eg: USD/ZAR; 2) many of them have been visiting and supporting SANParks for many years - some for over 50 years and 3) they, like everyone else,do not receive any discount for frequent visitor/pensioner.
A separate tariff for International visitors is not unusual, Botswana for instance has a 3 tier system: Botswana Nationals and residents; SADC countries (South Africa being one of them) and International.
As a rough estimate - if one visits SANParks for 10 or more days then it pays to get a Wild Card otherwise - pay the daily Conservation fee. This applies to all visitors.

I agree with Arks and Puff Addy. I have been a fairly frequent visitor to South Africa for over 20 years now, and have probably even spent more time in national parks and reserves around South Africa than most locals. I love the country, the people and the animals and we have happily put a lot of our hard-earned cash to help the economy and local projects. This time, our itinerary might justify the purchase of a Wild Card but I was astonished - and disappointed - to see only one option for international visitors, and at a premium rate. I have no wish to be controversial but in this day and age is it still appropriate to operate a tiered system on Wild Card prices and Conservation Fees that discriminates and treats people differently?...
