White-tailed Tropicbird

Unread post by Lizet Grobbelaar » Thu Oct 22, 2009 6:59 pm

After birding on the Seychelles and surrounding Islands I am able to add a few special birds to Moegaai's Index. Here is the first one.

White-tailed Tropicbird

Wings: The best feature to distinguish it from the other two Tropicbirds is the black patches on each upperwing - one on the outer primaries and the second on the scapular coverts.
The bill is decurved and yellow to orange.
The tail has two long central white streamers.
The black mask extends through the eye onto the earcoverts (but does not extend onto the hind neck as the Redbilled TB).
The underparts are white.
The eyes are dark.
