Hi schliek
Yes ,Nossob as well as Mata Mata and Twee Rivieren have gates. The unfenced camps Kielie Krankie, Urikaruus, Kalahari Tented Camp, Gharagab, Grootkolk and Bitterpan do not have gates because they are unfenced camps but the same gate opening and closing times apply. The gate times are as follows:

January to February
06:00 – 19:30
March
06:30 – 19:00
April
07:00 – 18:30
May
07:00 – 18:00
June and July
07:30 – 18:00
August
07:00 – 18:30
September
06:30 – 18:30
October
06:00 – 19:00
November and December
05:30 – 19:30

Nossob camp's gate must be kept closed all the time to keep the jackals out of the camp. No problem -- when you get there, if there is no-one at the gate, just get out and open it -- making sure to close it behind you.

Hi Irene,

just have a look at the webcam highlights from the past months. There you find plenty of lions, cheetah, brown hyena and many more.

Just to mention a few.

And a bird is not just a bird

I am no KTP expert having only just come back from our first trip - Dec/Jan but we stayed two nights at Nossob and it was well worth it. Had good sightings at both Kwang and Marie se Gat. Just my 5c.

IMHO Nossob is well worth a whole week to stay. You can make game drives drive to the north and to the south.

There are a lot of waterholes to visit.

If you want you can make a day trip up to Unions End in the far north.

Not to mention the hide, Nossob offers drives etc.

Maybe we should spread that rumour - then we can have all the lion and cheetah sightings around Nossob to ourselves

Seriously though, like any game park it's all about luck. We are going to be in Nossob for 5 nights in May. I'm sure that answers your question.
Enjoy

Been to Nossob 5 times. 4 times great, 1 time average, but the raptors were the best of all 5.

Nossob is the best. We will be staying in Nossob 12/05/09 - 16/05/2009. April 2008 a BIG male lion kept us busy day and night for 2 - 3 days. North of Nossob and Marie se gat are the best.

Nossob night drive.

Unread post by expat » Thu Jan 08, 2009 1:51 pm

When we were in Nossob in September, Francois took us for a night drive and we commend him for his knowledge. He made it really interesting and we saw animals and birds we would never have know were there, had we been alone - fat chance! During the day we had watched him struggling to drain the Nossob waterhole, knee-deep in mud, and he enlightened us on the necessity for this when we met him. Thanks Francois! Sorry we are so late in telling you how much we enjoyed our drive.

Hi expat
We met Francois last April and also found him to be a big asset to KTP
Please do tell us...why was it neccessary to drain the waterhole? Is it because it is a man-made waterhole and algae etc builds up.. I'm interested to know.
thanks so much
At home...... dreaming of next trip to KTP

Nossob not good for sightings???

Must be a rumor made up in order to keep the spot for some selfish one (maybe me ) ... or someone who doesn't count cheetahs lions and leopards as good sigtings maybe ???

But yes, you have to be there at the right time, which is never guaranted!

To be more specific, during our last stay in October we saw lions at Marie se draai, a Leopard at Bedinkt ( so close we could have touched her) and we know there are cheetahs around, also we never encountered them there so far.
Before that, in January, lions sightings right outside the gate, very very close, a pack of 5 youngs sleeping nearly on the trail, and a few others on the way north ...

Add to this that Nossob area is a lot less busy than the TR-Mata Mata one

Up to you now!

As somebody once said

When in the Kalahari, you do not find the animals, they find you

Wise words when you have spent a day in your car and seen nothing, I use "nothing" in the sense of the "big" ones. Even parked in the middle of nowhere will give you some "life" to view, be it bird, insect, animal or tracks

I just booked in Nossob (5 nights) for June 2009.
We will be camping and because it is winter we will use electric blankets.
Now someone tells me that the powersupply is off for parts of the night.
Can someone please tell me if it is true and at what tmes.
