Our favourite bird sighting of all time was a Pennant-Winged Nightjar as it flew over the road in front of us in Zim.

Other than that the Cuckoos and Bush-Shrikes are some of my favourites.
Latest Lifers: Brown-Backed Honeybird; Violet-Eared Waxbill; Green-Winged Pytilia; and heard often but never seen - Yellow-Fronted Tinkerbird (±2m away in the open)

I once had the sighting of a bearded vulture aka. Lammergeier in Lesotho and since then this is top of my list.

But I'm still a starter in birding.

Keep it up Batsman, it gets better with practise.

The Near threatened Olive Headed Weaver must be my all-time favourite! We went on a "Mission OHW" in Sept 2002. Up until then there were no decent photographs of these birds, so my brother-in-law asked us to come along. These Weavers breed 12-15 meters up in miombo trees, and to photograph them he would have to build his bird hide on scaffolding! So we went on this 10 day "holiday trip" to Mozambique... No holiday I must say, but it definitely is one of my best memories and experiences I will ever have! Exciting, scary, scorching, dirty, spiders and fruitful are words that come to mind, it sure was an once-in-a-lifetime experience, and therefore this bird will always be my favourite!

For now it´s gotta be the Cape Rockjumper! I found it last week close to the Kanonkop summit at Sir Lawry´s Pass, Western Cape. It was the first time that I went searching for a specific bird. The wind was blowing strongly and I didn´t see a thing on my way to the top. Then, on my way down, I suddenly heard a unfamiliar, piping sound. I looked and was able to observe a group of 3 Cape Rockjumpers for maybe 10 minutes. An awesome sight of a special bird! :D

Any kind of waterbird - egrets, herons, bitterns, storks, coots and moorhen etc., especially kingfishers (and of the kingfishers I like the malachites and pygmy's most).

Obviously Little Grebe (which is why I chose it's old name as my username)

White-faced scops owl

Black-chested snake eagle

All bee eaters

All korhaan's

Trumpeter hornbill

Has anyone done a count? Reading through the whole thread it seems as if owls, bee eaters and kingfishers come up quite a lot...

Attention all expert birders!
Am I correct in saying that this is a Purplecrested Lourie?
Are they very rare or common throughout Kruger?
Not the best photo, but a beautifull bird indeed. Seen in Pretoriuskop camp Dec 2010.
My favourite bird currrently........

Hi twigga :)

That looks likea Purple-crested Lourie (I think it's called a touraco now) to me :) Stunning bird

I think my favourite would have to be the hornbills, what would Kruger be without them? :D

Carmine Bee-eater is my top bird. With that beauty and agility I can watch them for hours
