This is the place with a brackish spring chosen by Ranger Coetser as his camp, before he cast his envious eyes on Chief Shokokololo’s village 18 km northwest, which had a strong fountain. The Chief had been supplying traders on the Ivory Trail with accommodation and produce from his extensive gardens for many years, but Coester evicted him and established Punda Maria on the site.
