This guy was sitting on the way to the ablution at Lower Sabie, November 30.

About 10 cm in total.

Saw quite a few of these guys while walking at Kloofendal NR recently.

Opistophthalmus pugnax - Highveld Burrowing Scorpion.

While stings from large individuals can be painful, the symptoms are not serious.

One of the most dangerously venomous scorpions in South Africa, the Parabuthus transvaalicus is not a scorpion I come across often. So I was very happy when we spotted this one near Graskop this past weekend.

The venom is potent, and there have been cases where adults have gone into comas for a few days. These guys are not to be trifled with, and stings should always be treated as medical emergencies.
