Ice making facilities on Sweni Trail
On the SANP site it states that there are limited refrigeration facilities in the Sweni Trail camp. I am trying to find out if this means there is a freezer (to make ice) in the bush camp or is it just a gas fridge. Please can someone who has done the trail help with advice.

On the final day of the trail what time (approximately) do you get back to Satara? I'm trying to plan my onward journey.
Cheers,
Hi lys
On the final morning, you leave the camp directly after breakfast and can expect to be back at Satara at about 08:45 - 09:00. Enjoy the trail, it is absolutely incredible

Update:
I received the information from SanParks itself, that no trails will be available between Mid of December 2016 until January 15th 2017

Re: Sweni trail
Helsinki , there are no trails then as its just too hot and the camps do not have electricity so no fans . the walks are also just too hot and a great chance of heat stroke ...and sun burn Temps can reach over 40C at times . And as you are coming from overseas would not be able to take those high temperatures . even we hardened South Africans would not survive for long in that heat
The probability of someone watching you is proportional to the stupidity of your action.
Re: Sweni trail
Plus possibly the trail guides take their annual leave then?

Re: Sweni trail
I know that you must be disappointed, but try to make the best of a plan B.
I would suggest booking for early morning bush walks and possibly a bush braai or two... or three.
I have been on trails when the temperatures reach over forty and it was no joke. Our walks were cut short and the afternoons were spent cooling down with wet towels and t-shirts.

Sweni Wilderness Trail Logistics
My wife and I are booked for the Sweni Wilderness trail in December this year. Do we have some kind of storage at the Satara rest camp for our primary luggage? Also, my understanding that we are driven to the trail camp on the first day. Should we carry all our luggage with us? Debating whether I should store some luggage back at Joburg airport to use for our second leg in Capetown.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Sweni Wilderness Trail Logistics
A very warm welcome rahgovin.
Most people who do the trails leave excess luggage in their cars, which are safely parked at the camps. It is quite safe and the only thing is to make sure that there is nothing left that can be damaged by heat, especially in the summer months.
If you have a lot of luggage which can be separated into 2 sections, it might not be a bad idea to make use of airport storage. The trail huts are very small and it is best to have what is needed for the few days of the trail.
I wish you a fabulous trail experience. Enjoy each moment.

Sweni Wilderness Trail renovations
Hello All
I know that the Sweni Wilderness Trail was closed for at least part of 2023 for a refurbishment - but it does now seem to have re-opened, judging from the fact it seems possible to book it - hurrah!
Has anyone stayed there since the refurb? I did the trail in August 2022 with my family (so obviously know what it was like then!) and would love to do it again, so I'm really interested to know what the actual camp is like now. Has the accommodation changed? I've searched for any recent pictures, but can't find any.
Thank you for any information - either photographs or comments

The recently upgraded Sweni Wilderness Trail camp. All units are fully solar-powered with modern finishes, aircon, fan, bathroom with 2 showers (indoor and outdoor) and additional wash-basin.

Re: Sweni trail
Thanks for that Elsa,
for the solar power. It looks a very intelligent design.
As someone who likes privacy, for the bathrooms.
We have a lot more visitors from colder countries, air con will make all the difference.
A big to Sanparks.
