for your kind comments and
Ollie, welcome on board!
Let's find out if the last night in Bitterpan was as eventful as the previous two nights.
While the rest went to sleep, #2 son stayed up a little longer and positioned himself on their little balcony.
What happened next, we still haven’t forgiven him and earned him the name sighting hogger.
Lions turned up

A lioness
and a young male
#2 son reckons he called at our door that there were lions at the waterhole. He says he even came I and shone the torch in our faces. Must have been a little whisper and he obviously forgot to turn the torch on, because we never heard him and the light didn’t wake us up either. And this time, I for one would have heard if he had called or knocked on the door. So we never got to see them
#2 son went back into his ‘playpen’ and started clicking away
The lion heard the clicking of the camera and looked straight at #2 son
Seeing that stare through his lens, he realized standing at the edge of his ‘playpen’ might not be all that clever

It wouldn’t take the lion very long at all to get to him. So he quietly moved to the balcony and continued taking photos
What is this? Can I eat it?
All the while gemsbok had been closing in and in the pitch black, they had not noticed the lions at all.
That was obviously why the lion had kept looking around.
The gemsbok had gotten very close to the lions when the lions went after the gemsbok. #2 son managed one grainy photo before they disappeared into the darkness
#2 son heard a lot of commotion. But it was so dark, he couldn’t see anything. We think the gemsbok got away unharmed. We never saw anything next day, that indicated a kill that night.
