Best Route

I will be travelling in a sedan from Middelburg, Mpumalanga to Phalaborwa Gate early October. Which route is best in terms of safety and road conditions. Any recommendations will be much appreciated.

Thanks for all the info Elsa! I have been travelling from Middelburg to Lydenburg via Belfast / Dullstroom regularly the past 30 years and the potholes between Dullstroom to Lydenburg is the worst that it has ever been. I would like to know the condition of the R36 road from Lydenburg to Phalaborwa.
