Namaqua Flower report 05 September 2023

#NamaquaNationalPark will still be experiencing relative good flower display this week. We had some extremely strong winds for the most part of last week that had a negative influence on the flowers. The strong and gusty winds, together with very low temperatures, will probably limit the duration of the flower season. There is a slight discoloration of the flowers, meaning that visitors need to hurry if they want to see the flowers while they still have some colour.

There are still a lot of flowers to view along the walking trails ie. sambreeltjie, bobbejaantjie, bobbejaangesiggies, bokbaaivygies (purple and yellow), t'neitjie, ramhoringkie, reksening and different daisies. The area between Skilpad and Koeroebees is still covered with a mix of flowers like blousporries, bokbaaivygies (purple and yellow), dassiegousblom and hongerblom. Around the Wildeperdehoek the flowers are still good for viewing, as well as the coastal side carpets with their variety of vygies, daisies and other wildflowers.

Guests who visit the park to view beautiful flowers are encouraged to walk the two walking trails and 5km route to see most of the good flower sightings.

Expected weather conditions for the week. Conditions will still be a bit on the cold side.

Date Min Max
Tuesday- 05-09-23 1 11
Wednesday -06-09-2023 10 19
Thursday -07-09-23 10 26
Friday - 08-09-2023 15 20
Saturday - 09-09-23 7 23
Sunday - 10-09-23 6 14

Please note that the temperature should be at least 18 degrees for the flowers to open up fully.

When I visited on 31 Aug it was VERY misty, but even in the less than ideal conditions the beauty of the flowers could not be denied!
