Old photos of Kruger

This particular one is of the big sycamore fig (ficus sycamorus) in front of Skukuza restaurant. One taken in the 1950's when tree was small and one as it looks now.

I specifically visited Skukuza to go and stand under the sycamore tree after seeing this photo...

Imagine the stories it could tell from the past 70 odd years...

I met an old gentleman at Lake Panic that has been visiting the Park since he was a small boy with his family in the 1950's

It was even at that stage not possible to cross the Sabi unless it was late in the dry season.

There were signs that you were not allowed to switch off the vehicle when at a sighting as those years you had to get out of the car to swing start the car again...

The above photo makes me understand a bit more what he meant...

The two cars where they came across the lions are a Ford Consul (or it might be a Ford Zephyr) in front and a Borgwardt behind it.

We transferred all our 8 mm films to video. Very easy if you still have suitable a projector.

You project the films onto a white screen/wall and film it with your video camera. Keep the projected picture as small as possible to get a sharper picture.
