Quality of roads to GGHP?

Unread post by Grazie »

Hi there,

We’re travelling up from the Garden Route Stormsriver to Punda Maria. Looking to break up the 1600kms with a one of three stopovers, one of them could be Golden Gate. So, what are roads like for a 4x2 4-Berth MotorHome?

Cheers

Roads in GG are tarred. One section is a bit winding, but no problems there.

Beginning of December we will travel from Mountain Zebra NP to Golden Gate (Glen Reneen Restcamp) with a stopover in Ladybrand.

What will be the best route concerning road conditions and safety?

Thank you

Hi there

We did Glen Reenen to Mountain Zebra this July, about two weeks ago.

We did not go via Ladybrand ((Clarens to Fouriesburg to Ficksburg to Clocolan to Ladybrand becasue locals warned us the roads are very bad and dangerous to drive on.

We went Clarens to Bethlehem to Winburg to Bloemfontein to Colesberg, then turned off to Middelburg on the N9, then onto the N10 towards Cradock and then turned off to the Mountain Zebra Park just before Cradock. This isn't the shortest route but the roads are very good and it is safe. You will probably make better time than if you go the shorter route and it is pretty scenic route as well.

You are welcome to private message me for more info.

Thank you Pete for the good advise.

We have decided to travel the same route as you did in July.

I think we feel better on a safe road especially with a rental car.
