Thanks...it came as quite a shock! Oddly enough it was probably a better sighting of them than i've had in KTP!

Oh I do know the feeling!! And then you see those stunning HB sightings others have in KTP!!!

Maybe you should start a HB sighting site in WCNP too..........your luck might just turn!!!.... :D

About 10 years ago we had a similar late afternoon 'shock' sighting in WCNP, but it was a pair of caracals.

Hi all,

Astromatt congrats on getting a photo of the honey badgers...great work!

I have seen a caracal again during the last week. Again as mentioned drive slowly along from the whale lookout towards Kraalbaai...the caracals love sunning themselves in the winter sun in the lowlying areas between dunes. Also as there are not many tourists at this time of year, they are more commonly seen on the roads before sunset.

@Dassiedelight - I hope you had some good sightings

Hi O-dog,
Thanks for the comments...not the best picture but it will do.
This is the only caracal i've seen in the WCNP, taken on 24th September 2011. As you described above i saw him/her sunning themselves next to the road by the turn off for Jo-Anne's Cottage. So many people drove by so quickly that they missed the sighting...oh well

I've looked so many time since then but i've not seen another. Maybe another trip is in order this weekend

Caracal.

Unread post by Leonmars »

Hi all.

I'm very interested in seeing Caracal, and I hear that WCNP offers about the best odds in the country. Anyone have any advice about specific spots and tactics? I have been there a few times before, not with Caracal as a specific target though, just wondering what one would do differently to maximise the chances?

Thanks.

Hi Leonmars,

I'm sure I don't have to say anything about being in the right place, on the right moment

This is quite an old post but have a look here

WCNP Caracal

I do hope you get your caracal sighting, please let us know if you do succeed.
