Best Field Guide in South Africa - Sidney Mikosi

Unread post by Quintin »

Best Field Guide in SANParks and South Africa - This is Sidney Mikosi - Field Guide at Marakele National Park - Every single time I do a Game Drive or Bush Walk with Sidney, he is expetionally professional, his knowledge is amazing and he always seems to satisfy his clients, no matter if there where only a few sightings...This guy belongs in the Kruger National Park! I visit the KNP at least 10 times a year, and never have I recieved such great service and game drives from any KNP Field Guide,or anywhere else in SA! Well Done Sidney, you are the best! We need more guides like him in the KNP so that all our international visitors can experience this top class guiding service!

Marakele trip February 2016.

We have just returned from 4 days at Tlopi Tented Camp. Very beautiful scenery, green and lush, the dam at Tlopi full, fed from the mountain streams.
Very nice tented camp, unfenced and well situated overlooking a beautiful dam.
Great experience when a herd of +- 20 elephant passed through the camp right by our tent and then entertained us for 2 hours bathing, swimming and cavorting in the dam just in front of our tent!
Lovely drives especially steep mountain pass to Lenong View Point.
Highly recommended for quiet stay. :D

shfish wrote:!bushbaby, that must have been stunning! We were there in November 2015 and it was absolutely parched. Game sightings were also a bit scarce although did see *** on a couple of occasions. Great to know the elies have "discovered" the Tlopi camp dam as a playground. Hope the staff have at last put locks on the kitchen door so one can keep the monkeys out.

Your comment regarding the monkeys refers. The staff have developed quite an ingenius "lock" for the sliding door to the kitchen consisting of a rod of timber that fits in the door runner to prevent it from being opened. This rod is merely lifted up when opening and lowered when closing. We had the monkeys present often but experienced no "break-ins". I wonder how long it will take them to figure this out?

I'm glad you had a good trip, !bushbaby. I agree, Marakele is a wonderful park - not as many animals as Kruger, but amazing scenery and interesting trees (especially on the road up to the viewpoint - I've always wished I could walk up that road with a tree identification book in my hands!)

Good news about the lion cubs! I am sure someone will see them at some stage.

Hi all, we are planning a visit to Marekele NP and would like any info on the state of the roads in the park. We will be travelling in a campervan and need to know if the roads are suitable for this type of vehicle. thanks
