• Robert was appointed as a Tipper driver on 1 July 1974 in the Technical Services Vehicle Fleet. He was appointed on a “Job Level” 2 as a driver. On all Merit appraisals, traceable until 1995, it was indicated that Robert was a reliable, honest and hardworking employee of SANParks.
• As driver of the School bus, started in 1975, from Skukuza to Nelspruit, Robert was trusted by parents and supervisors to transport the high school children twice per week to and from Nelspruit and White river. He was always on time to inspect his bus and ensure that he report to the indicated bus pick up point for high school children. During his 44 years of service, only 2 accidents with Robert as the driver were registered. In both these accidents the investigation conclusion was that it was Bona Fide accidents, out of the control of the driver.
• Robert did several driver evaluations during his service, and without exception, the result was every time that Robert is a careful and excellent driver. In December 1979, Robert was awarded with a certificate for successfully completion of a “Driver Preventative Maintenance” course. Robert`s wife passed away in 1992 and he never married again. 4 Children was born from his marriage.
• In 1994, Robert attend a “Tyre Care and Maintenance” course from Maxiprest tyres, and receive a certificate for successfully completion. Robert as driver with a Code EC license, went through the complete vehicle category of the Vehicle Fleet, from buses to interlink heavy duty articulated vehicles. From 1994, Robert work under my direct supervision. I get to know Robert as a friendly, respectful and loved by his colleague’s kind of person. Robert will always ensure that he exactly know what is expected from him, where, when and how long.
• From 2004, Robert was the dedicated driver for all MANCO tours inside as well as outside KNP.The feedback my office received from MANCO members, was that Robert is a careful and reliable driver, always on time and helpful with the loading and off-loading of luggage.
In 2008 Robert was awarded an Achievement Award for “Outstanding Service in the workplace”. Today Robert will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for 44 years dedicated Service to SANParks. We honour Robert and thank him for the 44 years of dedication, hard work and knowledge he shared out of his experience, with the younger drivers at the Vehicle Fleet. Robert will retire in December 2018. And this award goes to Mr. Robert Phoku from KNP Technical Services
