Just came across this old story, resurrected again...

For an interesting first hand tourist report of the walk and lion attack, just read the book (available on Kindle) 101 Kruger Tales (www.krugertales.co.za/) where you will find out that the liones was about 100m from them. They slowly walked closer till about 70 m. Only when they tried to turn around, did she start growling. They had to slowly, inch by inch reverse from her till they felt safe. As soon as they turned their backs on her, she charged...
Seems like wild animals are NOT as predictable as we think they are...

Fascinating but sad story.
