Kruger Google Gamedrive

Unread post by G@mespotter »

All I can say is it's been a while

Just thought I'd share it with you: I'm leaving within an hour for my daily Googlemaps gamedrive. We depart from Lower Sabie at 12h00 sharp!

Jokes aside, some of you might have noticed already, but Google Maps has now documenten the most well-known routes in Kruger. First thought is: what's the use or purpose of it!? Well for our regular Kruger visiting formites there not much added value other then a waste of valued time and ofcourse a whole lot of daydreaming. You'll have to admit, from time to time and in the event that you have time, it can be fun

The advantage is that I can now show my foreign friends how Kruger looks like, that it's simply awesome, how the roads are and when the camp entrances and fences looks like all over. So too can I show those the difference in vegetation from area to are and 'drive' past the most well-known spots. Everything to persuade them to at least once in their life visit Kruger!

Tell me what you think, advantages and disadvatages :D I'm interested in the opinions around these parts. The discussion will start when we leave camp: so if you see any game along the Lower-Sabie Satara region, share them for fun sake. As I'm the driver, I'm to occupied with my important task of getting us there safe

Happy shooting mites!

Elmar that was my first thought too, when I saw that pair of *** I was very concerned.

Then I checked the date and it was filmed over a year ago, so I guess the information would not be much use to anyone..

Interesting things on Google Earth

Unread post by wrm »

Prompted by the many websites telling us about hidden places in Disneyworld and the like. Playing with Google Earth I spot interesting things.

For example these Image . As far as I know these are camps with varying degrees of keeping animals out to study plant growth.

But look at this one Image. It's between the H6 and the S100 and it's not on any maps I've seen. Nature conservation? Private operators? Steamtrainfan? :-)

Edit: Thanks mod(s)!

I think the top one might be the plots where they study vegetation growth and effect of burning. Divided into plots and burning is never done, done every year, done certain years and the effect is recorded. If it is those plots, they are not fenced - just fire break type tracks between them. . I went there when doing an Earth Sciences Course - very interesting!

On the Salitje Road, between Skukuza and Lower Sabie, there is an area which is fenced from about waist height upwards - to keep larger animals out and the effect of that is being studied (there are notice boards on the road, explaining it.

Regarding the lower photo - I have seen Singita private concession vehicles coming out of a track onto the H6, so maybe it is staff accommodation for the workers at the Singita lodge near N'wanetsi picnic site???
