What we see is a mere reflection of something greater and deeper.

How many times do we drive and see dead trees or plants lying all over, and new life (sprouts) starts to grow from those dead trees and plants. :D

Thank you to the staff at Golden Gate

Unread post by Hippotragus »

We have just spent a few nights at Golden Gate, which we enjoyed and plan to return in the not too distant future.

On our way there, at Harrismith, we received a phone call from a lady at Glen Reenen Camp, saying that the Basotho Cultural Village (where we were booked) had no electricity and therefore no water either and they were going to accommodate us at the Glen Reenen Camp.

We were duly given a rondavel near the noisy main road and with no view whatsoever. Well we put up with it for one night and then in the morning went to Reception to see what they could do. Thanks to the ladies there and Priscilla at the Golden Gate Hotel we were transferred to a chalet, with a wonderful view, at the hotel.

In the hasty packing up at Glen Reenen Camp, we forgot our pyjamas under the pillows and I dashed back, only to be told by the cleaning lady that she had already asked another staff member to take them to the Hotel. They duly arrived at our door about an hour later - what service!!

On Saturday we had problems with SS1 on the TV (we don't need TV in the bush, but if it is there, it gets used!). We were keen to watch the Springboks vs Australia match and a very obliging chap from the hotel went to great lengths to get it sorted out and we watched the match!

I didn't get everyones' names but a big "Thank you" to all the ladies and gents at Golden Gate who made us feel very welcome and helped us out, when they had problems fitting everyone in when one camp was "down".

Hi picnic.

We were in Chalet 58, but they all have a view of the buttress and adjoining mountains. The chalets are in rows of 8, i.e. 4 pairs of adjoining chalets and there are about 5 rows of chalets - going up a hill, so each row looks over the row in front - if you get the idea. Not a very "bush" setting but better than what we initially had at Glen Reenen!!
