March 2014 Rains/Floods in Kruger

Still dry in Skukuza at present. We even had stars out last night indicating a clear sky.

Chatting with staff yesterday I found that some guests have been arguing that they still want to go to the camps they have booked etc!!!! Roads and camps have only been closed to stop folk getting stuck/trapped/or worse. They do not want the same situation as last year when they were airlifting folk out with vehicles and belongings left behind. The current situation with the weather is beyond SANparks' control........all they can do is manage the situation as safely as possible.

We are at Letaba this evening. I have pics to share when I get home.

The river levels are dropping and the sun has shone yesterday and today.

Kite, Marula region is the Kruger south of Olifants.

I can honestly say that I have never seen Kruger so beautiful.

Big storm in Croc Bridge last night, so we weren't too surprised to find the bridge closed this morning.
The Sabie river and tributaries are all definitely higher today than yesterday.
Much cooler today than it has been for a good while.

Out of interest, why is Sable Hide closed? Has the dam reached the hide or is it an access road issue?
What are the chances it'll be open on Tuesday?

I saw pictures of the hide being flooded. So I think you will need a winch, snatch rope and 2 land cruisers to get to it. Or one ford...

No, the bridge has not yet been repaired but was again deeply under flood water last week.
