Hello all

Cisticolas drive me crazy. I got my first ever - the Levaillant's- and ever since then I have managed to ID lots, but got all the IDs wrong! So I am here to ask the fundis to see if my suggestion is reasonable.

I have spent about a week trying all permutations (I don't just put a bird on and just ask for ID - that is no way to learn and anyway defeats the fun of hunting through the books).

I was at Ndumo two weeks ago and got these three photos of the same bird - but like all birds it was not cooperative.

I am going for Rattling Cisticola based based on the fact that it is in the right area (and Levaillant's - my first thought - is just extralimital in Ndumo), has the right coloured head , has the mottled greyish brown back (as noted in Roberts) without the clear rufous wing panel of the Levaillants.

If I am wrong - so be it! If it cannot be ID becaseub the hptos atre too unclear i won't be hurt if you say so.

I like cisticolas; they just drive me cray, that 's all!

The second bird was photographed at the most challenging angle for cisticola ID, but Rattling is the most probable candidate.

Here are several birds that I am struggling with. I have an idea for three of them but may be well off base. Any assistance is appreciated...

huntsman, can you perhaps tell us where and when you saw these birds, location and time of year are helpful information needed for ID.

Hi All

I'm busy sorting through all my pics and identifying those I haven't yet. I have a few I.Ds that needs to be confirmed.
All three seen in Pilanesberg in November.
