Help ID Eagle plse

Unread post by avon vosloo » Mon Mar 11, 2013 10:07 am

Even, or maybe because of, the close range I'm not certain.

Wahlberg or confused Steppe feasting on a snake?

Spotted when in the tree already and stopped right next to it and I managed a few shots. I left when another vehicle arrived and the bird was just swallowing the last bit of the snakes tail.

I'll also go with Tawny Eagle.

Cere ends below middle of the eye, elongated nostril shape, baggy feathering on the tarsi.

Eish, even with good books like Birds of Prey of Africa and it's Islands & the new Roofvoel Gids van SA.

The white area on the chest confused me because the former book show's a Steppe with a clear white area. Then there's the three variants of the Wahlberg dark brown, brown and light (I thought maybe brown).

One more shot - I don't get these regularly with my 70-200

Thanx everyone

Where and when did you photograph the birds, cfraser?

2. I'd go with Tawny Eagle.

Where & when is important for 1-4.

Some tricky ones here, but I'm going to give it a bash. I haven't checked any books yet, and these are just first impressions:

2. Definitely Tawny

excellent work guys! I was way of course haha!

I cannot give you exact details of the locations, as they were taken by my father.

However, in January 2013 he was staying at Tamboti, LS and Pkop (So more South of the Park)

and the pictures taken in April 2012 were more Central/North of the Park towards Tamboti and Mopani
