I have spent 2 New Years in Kruger and enjoyed it so much that I am off for my third.

My first was in Punda. Some one got a boom box out and was ready to joll. They were told :rtm: by management. My children met up with some young aussies and they spent the night chatting until past midnight.

They forgot to put the fruit away and we had an early morning raid by the dawn patrol.

Last year I spent New Year at Pretorius Kop. There was singing from the staff village, but it was more choral music that boom box music. I rather enjoyed it.

This year I will be at Tzendze and can't wait.

Porridge, it is well worth it.

Lower Sabie had a night drive and braai last year at Mlondozi. I know that there were many anxious moments and concern about rain. I believe it ended up being a most enjoyable evening.

We spent New Year in Skukuza 2010.

Even though it's a large camp, people were just having family braais, or like us, were having a lovely meal in the Boma next to the retaurant.

It was a delicious meal, and we were finished by 9pm, and went back to our unit for a coffee and Amarula on the stoep, listening to the night sounds of Africa, and looking up to the amazing skies!!

We were in bed by 9.45pm ready for an early morning drive.
In my beloved South Africa!!!!.

We spent New Years at Shingwedzi in 2007 and it was awesome, the restuarant arranged for a braai outside under the stars. No better way to spend new years, a braai with the Shingwedzi river in view and all the animal sounds. Damn now I can't wait for December to come.
Skukuza with my children for a boys weekend - 6th January to the 10th January 2016

We spent new years in Tsendze last year, and it was amazing. Went to bed early, only to be woken by lions roaring just after midnight. What a way to be woken in the new year  This year we are going to spend it in Punda Maria, and I cannot wait.

New Year's Eve Drive / Bush Braai

Unread postby Bushbuddies » Sat Mar 16, 2013 9:05 pm

I remember reading last year on the forums about a New Year's Eve Bush Braai at Lower Sabie - where they were out in the bush to usher the New Year in. I also remember reading of a Drive going out from Nossob at 23:00 on 31 December, so that you celebrate the New Year in the bush. Does anybody know if it is only these 2 camps offering these drives? It sounds like the best place ever to be for New Year's! Which KNP camps offer this?

I think you will find very little goes on in the camps on New years eve.
certainly in the form of parties or revelry.

I know some camps, Lower Sabie being one, have had a New Year's Eve bush braai drive in the past.
But I'm not sure if they are still doing that.

Lower Sabie is possibly the place that you are most likely to have a bush braai, or drive. Skukuza is also worth trying.

As Elsa said, Kruger is usually quiet on New Year's eve.

The website not easy to naviugate and to find the right contact..... Struggling to get the email address of that specific camp to ask the question. Thanks for your precious help. Any more general advice of course welcomed! Our 3rd time in the Kruger but 1st time in the far north of the camp and first time during that perdio of the year so.... Bye!

Hi patriceabout,

Welcome to the forums  .

Here is a Link to the contact details of the Mustard Tree Restaurant at Shingwedzi.

I just returned from a visit to Kruger and also booked a table in advance at Satara. Management was really helpful and replied within 10 minutes :D .

Enjoy the visit to Kruger and hope you have lots of wonderful sightings  .

Hi patriceabout

Shingwedzi is hot that time of year and part of the restaurant summer offering is insects dive-bombing on you, sitting on the deck by candlelight. I love it but my wife finds it rather creepy. This scenario will probably provide some hilarious moments. You might want to consider booking a table indoors to enjoy air-conditioned comfort and protection from 'attacks'.

I was there last year over New Year Eve and the camp was dead quite by 10pm. You don't have to book a table at the restaurant as I doubt it will be that busy. We did not do it as it was raining but I know they offer a Midnight trip to the bridge outside camp and include champagne to toast the New Year in. Everyone get out on the bridge and has a glass of champers or whatever you bring along to drink.
