Shrub: African Dogrose (Oncoba spinosa)

Unread post by Elsa »

This beautiful large shrub was flowering in the Tshokwane picnic parking area.
Another name according to my reference is the Snuff-box Tree.

The flowers of this smallish tree or shrub are indeed beautiful. The wildflowers of Kruger are also discussed in another current thread. Sometimes this tree is also referred to as the “fried egg tree” as the yellow stamens in the centre of the flowers resembles a fried egg :) . I think it is very appropriate for the Tshokwane area as many a Kruger visitor has had and will still have fried eggs on their skottels at the newly renovated picnic spot

Lovely photo Elsa..............such a delicate rose looks as though it should be in an English garden, not the African bush!!!

Will look out for it when we call in at Tshokwane in November!!
Missing my beloved Kruger!!!
