Re: Identification Help - Raptors

Unread post by Rookie » Tue Feb 21, 2012 10:29 pm

I have just spent the last weekend in the southern KNP and saw a number of raptors that I have not been able to identify and would like some help.

Our initial feeling on the next one was a juv Bataleuer, however, the yellowish beak has us completely confused, so I am thinking more along the lines of a buzzard, but which one I also don't know.

This bird was sitting in a tree with what looked like White-backed Vultures.

I have a few more of Falcon/ Kite type birds which I will try to ID before posting for confirmation if I am allowed.

Thanks for all your patience and help for a real birding Rookie!

Wow Arie, thanks for all the info!
Really didn't know all of that.
I was going to ask if all of you could let me know if this is a bateleur, but I shouldn't have second guessed myself. 100% sure that it's a bateleur now :)
