Not nearly as great a shot as some of you guys' but finally saw one and got a record pic at least. We only saw the one and it was just hanging on to the back of the small herd of Tsessebe. Seen at Thihongonyeni waterhole in January 2012.

I saw a single one hanging onto the front (so to speak) of a small herd of tssessebe at Tihongonyeni last month. There was a herd of eland there too, not to mention zebra and blue wildebeest all over the place, and buffalo. I should also mention at least 70 Egyptian Geese in the pan (the number was probably at least double that), along with one White Pelican. Also Knob-billed Ducks galore, 47 Ostriches, three Pratincoles, and zillions of less uncommon birds, ranging from all sorts of eagles and vultures to Chestnut-backed Finchlarks. To top it all off the whole plain was covered with Bladder Hibiscus (Hibiscus trionum, Terblansbossie) and a yellow flower I failed to identify.

This lone Lichtenstein was waiting for us on the Voortrekker Road in March 2013. He was grazing with a herd of Impala’s.
