Re: Gauteng Meet - Braai at Rietvlei

Sorry Madam Chairperson, your post came through before I could post mine.

Me Chair, Mr Secretary and fellow Mites,

Due to the fact that the lapa's are not available I had a chat with Mads this morning and decided to vist Rietvlei again to speak to management at Rietvlei to chose between the picnic spot at Maraisdam or the Coffee shop. The following transpired from the meet with management:

Only groups of 20 max are allowed at Maraisdam. I was also told that it is normally very noisy at the picnic area and people normally invade group area's.

I went to the Coffee Shop and had a meeting with Renè. They are more than willing to be of service to our whole group. They have a special area way from the normal picnic area under two huge oak trees that they set aside for us. The following is included:

1. Tables draped with table cloths, crockery, normal glasses and cutlery needed for the braai;
2. Chairs;
3. Two big Braai's including wood for the braai's;
4. Tea and coffee will be available when we start our meet; and
5. Although they don't have a liquor license, they will have somebody available for people who wants to order soft drinks for their own account and they have ice for own account.

Total cost for the above is R 750.00 for the day that we as a group will have to pay.

REMEMBER All the side dishes (pap & sauce, Potato salad, carrot salad, mixed salad and buns) already sponsored and paid for, however feel free to bring any other dish if you wish.

Where will the official meet be?

The Coffee Shop (maps are available at reception)
When you enter the terrain, our spot is on the right of the building under the two oak trees.

When does the official meet starts?

12:00/12pm (12 uur die middag)

Do we have to pay an entry fee?

Yes unfortunately.
R 40.00 per adult
R 20.00 per child
R 5.00 (child 0-5years old)
R 20.00 for pensioners

When do we have to leave the park?

Gates closes at 18:00/6pm (6 uur die aand)

Do we have to fly our yellow ribbons?

Yes Please.

What should we bring with

Something warm for the cool air later during the day;
Meat for the braai;
Wine glasses for those who drink wine (the shop don't have wine glasses);
Ice for all the Amarula AASS's, cheerleaders etc.; and
last but not least your own special Dop!!

Hope the above answered all the questions that arose.

I personally can't wait for Saturday 21 April 2012 :clap: .

Home now after an awesome meet. It was such fun meeting all the mites we haven't met before. For everybody who made a contribution to the success of this meet, THANK YOU!! :thumbs_up: We had so many laughs, still have a pain in my side from laughing, and sjoe, trying to keep Scipio away from Auntie Dot was also a mission...she is such a charming lady :clap: Thank you Click Click to get Martie on Skype for all of us to have a chat to her. That was a highlight... and Martie... remember the good news stays between us :twisted: We must certainly do this again soon :D

The meet was incredible, it just went by far too quickly! Couldn't believe it when the sun started to go down!
It was so nice to see those we have met before again and very nice to meet all the new friends. :dance:

Thank you so much for everyone's contribution with salads (wow Mellory the bread salad was delicious) and desserts (the most amazing amarula cupcakes!)

The highlight was definitely the skype video call with Martie in Doha, technology is just amazing. And of course the surprise for MM and Barry & Hilda to get the canvas prints from Martie's pics, bought on the *** anti-poaching auction.

In Aunty Dot's words "it felt like we spent a day with family" :dance:

Let's do it again soon! :clap:

What an awesome group of people! What a great day! What a stunning meet! It honestly felt like a family gathering. Thank you everybody for making this a wonderful day! :D

Rietvlei Rocks! The staff were always everywhere for assistance if needed, the food was fantastic, service like you've never seen before! Thank you to Marie and staff! :clap: :clap:

Sharifa, thanks a million for those wonderful samoosas! I have never tasted such lovely samoosas before! Mellory, your "secret salad" was fantastic! Thank you! :gflower:

Thank you to Randalph for the snacks, Wendy for your lovely noodle salad, all the other people who brought the cakes, cup cakes, milk tarts, etc. for dessert, and Waterbuck for lighting the fires! :thumbs_up:

Click click, thank you for letting us all talk to Martie in another continent "face to face". It was unreal, but wonderful. :k

Come on Shi! I know you actually wanted those Rhinos, but it is mine/ours! :wink:

It was wonderful to meet all the mites, each and everyone is very special, and it felt as if we have known them for ages, although we've only met them for the first time. :D

Cheetahkie, you were the heart and soul of the gathering, as usual. :clap: :clap:

Last but not least, thank you to my SO for all you have done to make this a very successful day! :k

If I have to mention all the names, I will sit here the whole day. Please know that I love you all, and you are very dear to me. Barry is going to post pictures later on, and I am looking forward to all the other mites' pictures taken yesterday!

And then:

Heksie wrote:WOW it looked like you guys had such a great time! I'm still so that I couldn't be there to join in on the fun

Mellory, not only "thieves" were made yesterday! "Liars" too! I bet Heksie wrote this without a blink! :twisted:

THANK YOU for attending Heksie! It was nice meeting you in person. Thank you also for the Amarula cup cakes made by Stellie!

We will meet again dear fellow 'Mites! :thanx:

Hi,
I think it is time that I say Hallo and thank you all for a wonderfull day :gflower: :gflower:

Wendy - thanks for the idea and initiative for arranging a meeting.
Cheetah - you were a very helpful secretary by keeping our list updated.
Barry and Hilda - thanks for the organizing, etc.
Shi, Sharifa and Duke, Mellory, and of course Heksie ( :D ) - for all the yummy stuff.
Waterbuck - for the yellow ribbons.
Click click - it was wonderful to talk to Martie and to see her smile again :gflower: Thanks for bringing Tannie Dot :dance:

And then to everybody that was present - I am looking forward to the next meeting already. I really ENJOYED to meet old friends again and to meet new friends as well :k

Since we did not go on a night drive or visit the Lions, Mads and I decided to post a few photos taken at Rietvlei. We also thought that it could be a good idea if Rietvlei can be declared a SANPark :hmz: :dance:

The Marsh Owl is for Sharifa, but everybody else can also share this cute bird
