First day in Kruger – Saturday 17th of September 2011

Hey guys :)
We woke up early and left White River at about 05h15, we got to Phabeni Gate at about 06h00.
After sorting out our Wild Cards we finally got in at 06h20.
We were stressing about the day as it looked overcast, but it actually turned out to be a stunning day.

After entering Phabeni Gate, we headed onto the S3 towards Paul Kruger gate, we saw Bushbuck, Impala, Buffalo, Elephants, Kudu, ***, (white and black) Giraffe, Zebra, Nyala.

We saw this Cactus growing in this very tall tree.

This lucky Impala got away. :D

A spotted Dikkop :)

My favourite Flower

At Paul Kruger Gate we turned Right and headed towards Skukuza for a toilet break and saw the new development there, we then headed to Nkuhlu Picnic spot for Breakfast with the family.

Here is a pic of my Sister Tanna, me and my cousin Scott.

We then headed 3km past Lower Sabie on the H10 and came across a very lazy Leopard sleeping in a tree.

A little further down the Road we saw a Mane Lion million miles away! But by 3pm we had seen our big 5 all on our first day.

At sunset dam we saw This ellie slashing around.

Our last stop was at Lake panic, what an awesome relaxing place that is.

What a lovely day we had, we are so happy that we were so lucky to see such wonderful animals and we cannot wait for our next trip in.

Thank you for reading my Posts

19th of September – Monday Kruger.

Today we started our day early, we left our lodge and just outside the gate we saw a blackbacked Jackal.
We then headed to the Kruger, It took us about an hour to get to Orpen Gate.
We got into Kruger at about 06h00am, we then travelled on the Timbavati Road to the Timbavati Picnic spot for a stretch and a toilet break.

One of the first few sightings we saw was a dead Scrub Hare on the side of the road and a mongoose was taking bites out of it and pulling it closer to the bush as each car came closer.

We then went down to a Ratel Pan hide just past the picnic spot, we saw Egyptian Geese with babies, the resident African Spoonbill, A few crocs and a Pied Kingfisher diving for Fish.

We then went back on the tarred road and turned left onto the S40 towards Girivana Dam, where we saw one lonely elephant drinking some water out of the trough.
The little dam was all dried up, we also met our first yellow ribbon Click click, HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR TODAY

We then headed off to the Nsemani Dam, where we saw plenty lazy Hippos with babies, giraffe, warthogs Zebra and a whole heard of elephant swimming, splashing and having a drink of water, this was awesome to see, but we were all a little bit jealous because it was EXTREMELY hot and we could barely breath in the car.
We heard that it was about 40ºc.

We then headed to Satara Camp for Lunch, I had Pie chips and gravy, it was very good!
We bought some ice out of the awesome new ice machine at the take away. And got back into the hot car for the afternoon drive back home.
We headed back to Orpen gate on the main Orpen road where we saw animals such as giraffe, elephant, *** (10 in one sighting!), impala, Warthog, Zebra, waterbuck, little herd of Buffalo, lots of Kudu and quite a few vultures on nests. We also saw 3 different lots of lions lying in the river bed, with cubs, a maned lion and a collard lioness, but they were all very far away.

Good night Everybody.

21st Of September 2011 – Kruger

Today was another early start, we decided to go to the Kruger and enter through Phalaborwa Gate.
It took us about an hour and a half (98km), Got into Kruger as the gates were opening. We saw plenty Wilde Beest, Zebra and two big herds of Buffalo, also a nice amount of Elephants, once again, at the water holes as it was a very hot day.

a lazy bugger.

We stopped off at Letaba to have breakfast, we had French toast at the Day Centre, a new area for us.

From Letaba to Olifants we just saw general game, when we got to Olifants we saw Hippos down in the river as well as Elephants and water buck.

After stopping at Olifants we saw an Elephant with quite big tusks at a drinking trough.

Also two *** lying under a tree, big herds of Zebra and Impala on the open plains, also 4 Ostrich and two Kori Bustards where were nice to see.

On the Bridge, 12km North of Satara towards Olifants, we saw a leopard with a kill in a tree.
This was really nice! It ate for a white and then climbed down the tree. It was so nice to see Martie again (another YR) while watching the leopard.
Looking forward to meeting up with her in Kruger next week

All we needed for our big five was lions but they eluded us.
We went out at Orpen Gate and back to Santawani.
Jarred got the fire going and we had a lovely braai once again :D
We had T-bone steaks, chicken, beetroot and phuto bake. Was delish
For pudding we had strawberries and custard.

Hope you enjoy!

On friday the 23rd we are going to be in the Kruger. Skukuza for 9 nights and then i will do a post every night.
Until then

It really Was a lovely stay, just wish i could have taken that bed with me  ... A.MA.ZING!

Just before the Sweni Road(S126) We saw Two Cheetah's lying on a mound.
we were very happy to see them as this was the first time for Jarred

We then came across a pride of lions.

Not even 600m from the lions We then got to a dam called Mazithi where a lot of activity was going on. huge herd of buffalo, crocs, impala, piggies, Zebra, Hamerkop and a saddle billed stork and few other birds.

5km after Tshokwane we saw A lion on a Giraffe Kill, it was quite far off the road, we heard that the kill happened yesterday.

Somebody from the Lion kill told us that 3 km along the road is a Leopard on an impala kill. we managed to see the impala but not the leopard. :( you win some you lose some.

We then arrived at Skukuza at 2pm. it was extremely hot setting up our little home, but we tried to get it done as quick as possible.

At about 4 pm we went for a little afternoon drive, an hour out and an hour back.

My mom spotted a Lioness next to the road and i just managed to get one pic as she was on a mission and was out of sight in no time.

And last sighting of the day was some ellies that crossed the road.

We returned to camp and had a lovely Braai under the African Sky! wonderful way to end the day.

Sweet dreams from the best place on earth xxx

25th of September – Skukuza – Day 3

The bush came alive for us today, what an AWESOME day!

We left camp at 6am and travelled to Lake Panic to meet our friend, that we met at Satara last year.

We took a few photos at the Hide, so nice to be there early in the morning.
And to have our first cup of coffee.

Jacques jumped into the car with us for our morning drive, we Headed down towards Kruger Gate and at the junction of the S1, the Doispan Road we saw a herd of Impala barking in distress.
We turned onto the road and loo meters further on we spotted a young female Leopard with an impala by the throat, busy killing it right next to the road.
All very excited.
We watched it dragging the impala to the nearest tree which was 20m away.
We then saw a Hyeana approaching at speed, as the Leopard was taking the kill up the tree, the Hyeana stole it away, this happened so quickly.
We were the only car at this stage.
The Hyeana ate the impala straight away, and the leopard looked down from the tree, his meal was hijacked.
It was very sad to see the impala was pregnant!
The leopard eventually climed down the tree and disappeared into the bush.

We saw some *** and Giraffe at the next water hole, on route also elephant, 3 lots of ground hornbills and buffalo.

On our afternoon drive we went across the Sabie River and then further on the sand river, saw elephants, zebra, a Martial Eagle eating a Guinea fowl, lots of general game and what completed our big five for the day – 2 lioness walked across the road and into the bush.

We then decided to go back to where our leopard was.
We couldn’t see it at first but further into the bush Jarred spotted a piece of impala in another tree, as we were leaving I spotted the leopard climbing up the tree.

Big five once again.
Very, very lucky!

We having a lovely braai and Tanna made us pancakes with Bananas and Caramel, how delicious.
(will add the pics of that tomorrow)

Another beautiful day under the African sky!
Sweet dreams…

Along the way we Stopped on top of the Rock to take some pics.

We came back to camp and had a swim, it is extremely hot here again today. Unbearable!

We went down to Lower Sabie and back, along the river road.

We saw a family of Egypitian Geese walking across the road.

Maned Lion on the road.

1st of October - Skukuza - Day 9 (last full day :( )

As today is the beginning of October, the gates open a half an hour earlier, so we got up early and discovered that it had been pouring with rain during the night, everything of ours was soaking wet! including stuff in our tent! horrible, but we tried to sort it all out and we were waiting at the gate by 5:30am

We decided to head to Tshokwane for lunch and then back to camp on the H2-1.
One of the first things we saw was Another Leopard! our 7th one of the trip
(We heard today, that our one Neighbour that has been here the exact same time as us, havent even seen one leopard!
Just shows how lucky we have been :D )

he was in a very bushy tree near Lower Sabie, eating an Impala

We arrived at a very busy Sunset Dam. There was fish jumping all over the place!

A saddle billed stork

A Hippo Yawning.

We arrived at the picnic spot and had a lovely brunch, some of us had this...

On our way back to camp we saw lots of general game, Buffalo, Elephant, lots of ***, Wildebeest, Zebra, Giraffe, Bush buck, Warthog, Kudu, Monkeys, Baboons and Steen Bokkies.

We relaxed at Camp for a while and then headed out for our last afternoon drive, we were just looking for a lion to complete our Big 5 all in one day for the 5th time! :D
And look what we found

We had a nice drive. On the way home we saw some more General game, baboons and a Beautiful Sunset!

We have really had a wonderful holiday! but unfortunately we have to leave tomorrow, but we will still have a few more hours in the park thank goodness
