Tree: Pod Mohogany (Afzelia quanzensis)

Unread post by arks » Thu Mar 19, 2009 6:44 pm

These are two trees that I am trying to ID from pix of the seedpods, both seen in northern KNP in October 2008.

1. This one I think is the pod mahogany? Seen on the Punda Maria Flycatcher Trail on 19 October 2008.

Any help is much appreciated!

Is this tree a Pod-Mahogany? This tree sits in the middle of the road on the S130 (a loop of 13 km on the main Croc Bridge - Lower Sabie rd). I did not take a close up of the leaves unfortunately. Taken in June 2010. According to my book guide Pod Mahohany should have no leaves in June.

Agree, from a distance it looks like a Pod Mahagony, leaves can stay on longer, general guidelines are given in the book. The rest of the bush still looks quite green.

Here's another tree that I'd like ID help for. Seen on the Dzundwini loop in April 2016.
