This is a nice idea buffalo_soldier

This picture is not my best photo, but it's the memory that goes along with this photo that makes my hair stand up straight every time I look at it. (we took this picture moments before it happened)

Image

We were at the Timbavati picnic site for lunch one afternoon in October last year, when this happened. The kids were admiring a bushbuck at the edge of the site while we were preparing lunch. (my son is on the right hand side with the green t-shirt with my husband)

We called for them and sat down to eat, and while eating my eye caught somthing running towards us. It was a bushbuck running for her life and behind her was a lioness chasing her. :

In a split second the guards jumped up from where they sat, yelled "LION" and screamed at the lioness. She suddenly saw the people at the site and didn’t like the tone of the guards, so she stopped abruptly with her chase and not very impressed with the situation.
She looked at us all for a few seconds and then turned around and walked away. We were all quit in shock and needless to say, I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible.

But I have to say, it was a once in a lifetime experience.

Hi BS,

Nice idea. This was one of our best sightings in Kruger. In March last year my son, Bush Brat, said he wanted to see a Cape Clawless Otter. My dad and I told him that we had never seen one in over 30 years so he would have to be really lucky to find one. On our 3rd morning we left Lower Sabie when the gates opened and headed towards the H10. We were stopped on the low level bridge talking to someone else when BB shouted "OTTER"!!! It was right below us in the river, in and out of the reeds and rocks. We watched him for about 10 mins before he disappeared and we were the only ones to see him besides the guy we were talking to.

Hi All

I think this is a wonderful topic! We all have a favourite photo (or 10) and most of the time its the story behind the photo that makes it a favourite and not actually the photo itself.

Myself and Hoofhearted drove into Phabeni Gate in Dec '10 with no clue what we were going to witness that day. We came across 2 adult hyaenas with 3 cubs in the road. We sat and watched the hyaenas with their cubs playing at the den site, which was too cute. As we left and turned the next corner, a pack of Wild Dogs came running past us . The were clearly on the hunt with two puppies following closely behind. The Wild Dogs ran right by the Hyaena Den and after a brief confrontation the Wild Dogs continued with two hyaenas shadowing their every move. The Wild Dogs killed a young Impala and halfway through the feast the two Hyaenas barged in and stole the kill.

We managed to get this amazing picture of the showdown.

Another photo I love love love (sorry)

One early morning, just as the birds were waking up, myself and Hoofhearted the amazing privilege to see the resident female Olifants leopard resting next to the road after a nights hunting. It was really something wonderful to see as she posed for a number of photos for us before casually walking across the road and into the awakening bush!
