I think the black tear marks are supposed to cut down on glare????????

Yes, being black, they absorb excess sunlight, and hence glare.

I would suggest that you drive the loops around Mlondozi dam over and over again - there are plenty of cheetah in this area. We saw a beautiful cheetah at Transport Dam that we have been told is frequently seen in the area so you may be lucky there otherwise Kruger will reveal what she chooses to - good luck.

Here is the Transport Dam cheetah

I agree with michel367, cheetah are not often seen around Skukuza, but below are some pics of cheetah on the H4-1

The best cheetah roads for me have been:

S28/S137/S29 and H10 (south of Skukuza)

H7/S36 (north of Skukuza)

During my recent Jan trip I came across two Cheetahs lying in the road (H1-3) early one morning (04h45). As the gates open at 04h30 hours it was still very dark (my own mini night drive!) when my bright beams picked up the shape of two Cheetahs lying in the road. A motorist behind me had no patience, overtook me and frightened the two Cheetah. Fortunately I was still able to get a couple of photos before they disappeared into the darkness.
This photo was taken with the built in flash and did its job okay. (I had not fitted my more powerful flash :wall: as I had left it behind in my caravan)

This is the male and the female was nearby.

At the beginning of December we had a special sighting of a female with her 3 teenage cubs a few km north of Mapani…this is one of the cubs

Another distinctive aid the cheetah has for hunting are the black tear marks running from the eyes to the mouth. These tear marks shield the cheetah's eyes from the sun and make it one of the deadliest hunters in the animal kingdom.

just like grid iron players, it reduces the glare from the sun

We spotted the same cheetah family on a rainy Decenber-morning just between Mopani and Shingwedzi. Here is the video (I already posted it in my TR).
