I saw a similar lizard in October 2008 at Mopani (chalet #101), but I thought that it was a rock monitor :?

Yes, correct i.d. Nannie. In fact, it is a male in his breeding (red) colours.

Yip, I thought he looked familiar! Thanks for giving me the correct ID. When I was there, he was very relaxed, foraged around those rocks for quite some time.
