What is your absolutely necessary items to pack?

Unread post by KrynaM » Mon Jan 25, 2016 9:53 am

Hi Mites
With less than 2 months before we depart for our KNP trip, I need to find out what to pack and what not.
We'll be staying in the safari tents at Skukuza and Tamboti and hut at PKop. From what I've gathered, it's basically beds and we need to take the rest....

So my question to those with KNP experience...
what is the item(s) you deem absolutely necessary to take?
Is there something that you wish you'd taken the previous time you went there?
Any tips and advice for a rookie?

Last KNP Visit:

March 2015
19 & 20 March = Tamboti
21 & 22 March = Skukuza
23 & 24 March = Pretoriuskop

We always take masses of stuff "just in case", but here are a few "essentials":

Sharp steak knives (I think some units in some parks do now have decent knives, but take in case).
Oven gloves - never seems to be anything to pick up hot pans etc.
Torch or headlight - very useful when braaing.
Flask and travel mugs for early morning hot drinks when on the move.
Small cool box for cool drinks when driving.

Mosquito spray, coils etc.
Swimming towels if you are going to swim (we don't).
Binoculars, cameras, bird/animal/tree books.
Kruger map.
Books and games for kids.

Keep the questions coming and we will try to help.

Have a great trip.

The #1 necessity to pack for me is my reservation hehe, I once had the unfortunate (that turned out fortunate) event where I arrived at the KNP without my reservation, but thanks to the helpful staff they managed to assist me. Okay but please dont tell anyone, I once arrived at the KNP a day too early. :|
