May 2016 – Nyarhi Rustic Bushcamp

In May 2016 the Virtual Honorary Rangers hosted a Kruger Rustics Bushcamp at Nyarhi (situated on Shongololo Loop close to Mopani).

The guests were a group of friends from Johannesburg

Some feedback from one of the guests:
“We had an amazing trip! The team were excellent – their knowledge is superb and they were all superb hosts! We learnt a lot of new facts and always felt safe under their leadership. I enjoyed the fact that everyone wanted to share their knowledge. Thank you – we will be back!! – Merle Finch”

A total of R7 883.42 profit was raised for wishlist projects supported by the Virtual Honorary Rangers.

September 2016 – Nyarhi Rustic Bushcamp

In September 2016 the Virtual Honorary Rangers hosted a Kruger Rustics Bushcamp at Nyarhi (situated on Shongololo Loop close to Mopani).

The guests were a group of friends from Johannesburg and for some it was their first time camping out in the African Bush who thoroughly enjoyed the camp.

Some feedback from one of the guests:
“I've just gotten back from an amazing trip to the Kruger Park. We spent three nights at Nyarhi rustic camp situated a few kilometres from Mopani rest camp. Nyarhi is unfenced so one always needs to keep a lookout for visitors especially at night. Our routine entailed a wake up call by the birds before sunrise, prayer and a hot cup of coffee and a snack before a morning walk in the bush. A brief by the rangers before each walk "Stay behind the rifle, stay in a group and don't run". We follow game trails and stop regularly to analyse tracks in the sand or chat about fauna and flora that we encounter along the way. We get back to camp, have brunch and a refreshing cold shower. Lazy afternoons in the heat of the day, relaxing in the dry riverbed, under the massive Fig tree or in our tents. We head out for sundowners at the spring watching the elephants silently drink and have a dust bath. We get back in time for prayer at sunset and start a fire for the supper braai. After a nice meal, we sit closer to the flames to keep warm, replenishing dry wood and talking random stories. We hear the hyenas around the camp periphery calling out to let us know they're around and curious. The rangers aren't stressed so we remain calm as well. At night the camp common area is cleaned to avoid attracting curious critters from coming in and making a mess. The call of the Hyenas at night are both terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. As we exit the park on the Sunday we can't help feeling sad but also overwhelmed with the beauty of God's grandeur.”

October 2016 - Sand River Bushcamp

In October 2016 the Virtual Honorary Rangers hosted a fully catered bushcamp at Sand River Bushcamp which is situated off the H1-2 close to Skukuza Restcamp.

The guests were no stranger to the camp, with this been some of the guests fourth visit to Sand River Bushcamp. The experience and hospitality of the SANParks Honorary Rangers is what keeps bringing them back.

The guests had some exceptional sightings over the 4 days which included a pride of 20+ lions.

Some feedback from one of the guests:
“A great experience, awesome sightings and a wonderful group. The guides were well experienced, helpful and thought me a lot. The hospitality team were outstanding (5 star). Memories were made and will remain forever. My love for nature just grew ten fold - Yehya Hoosen”

A total of R11 815.95 profit was raised for wishlist projects supported by the Virtual Honorary Rangers
