This is what the lapa looks like when empty
Image
And then there is a heck of a lot of space to braai! You just move the coals over with a shovel and put the grid there! Here is an example (featuring Bush Brat and RoberT

Mr Secretary,

I visited Rietvlei on Friday and is all for the little lapa for our official get together. The picnic area at the birdhide is also nice, however if we miss out on the area next to the hide we will be sitting with an area where their is no grass anymore  . The area at the Coffee Shop is also a bit dusty and I don't think the big lapa is feasable for our "small" group. Will somebody book the lapa??

Thanks Waterbuck "Fire ant" for looking after the flames that we will need for the braai  .

Whilst I am also a near newbie, me and Auntie Hilda will sponsor the food ("pap" and sauce; potato salad; carrot salad; buns and butter) for the main braai.

Dan, I will bring along three (3) 750ml bottles of Amarula + the 750ml one that Untie Hilda won during the auction for the AASS's club members and our non members will also be able to have a few glasses then .

We as mites will then be responsible for our own dop, meat, plates, cutlery, chairs, braai thongs, salt & pepper and table etc.

Think the only point left is the time we will start officially?
Always be humble and understanding

Hi Gandalf! :yaya:

Warm welcome to the forum! :D

Bring yourself, SO, a choppie to braai (unless you are a vegetarian like DeeBee  ) and a cooler box with your cold ones, cutlery and plates, glasses and goodies and two chairs.
Have I forgotten anything Mr. Chair?

Directions

There will be those who are travelling on a broomstick Image You do NOT need to read these directions. Just fly directly to Rietvlei, and do not pass go

But for those of us coming by car, and needing directions Image

Directions:There are a few ways to get to the N1 Danie Joubert freeway (Centurion area)

Drive N1 North (Ben Schoeman )Take off ramp N1 Polokwane.

Or
Take a Route to get you on the N14. Go straight after you crossed the N1 towards Centurion / Polokwane

On the N1 (Danie Joubert freeway – Centurion area)
• Then go straight for about 8 km... Past John Voster Ave and Botha ave. take R21 south (O.R. Tambo) off Ramp Keep south.

• The first off ramp after you turned on the R21 is: Nellmapius Dr (M31) take this off ramp.

• At the Robot turn left. At the next robot (garage on your left hand side) turn right towards Olifantsfontein and the St Georges Hotel. Drive for 1,5 km, crossing the Sesmylspruit.

• The first road after the Sesmylspruit, turn left. On the left is a sign indicating RIETVLEI NATURE RESERVE, turn left and follow the road up the hill to the main gate. Follow turns, (Rietvlei Heights on your left). Drive past the stone entrance (there is a boom) until you get to the offices and entrance gate. This is where you will pay entrance fees…

Or

From OR Tambo airport:
Take the off ramp on the R21: Nellmapius Dr (M31)
• At the Robot turn right.

Drive through the stone entrance (there is a boom) until you get to the offices and entrance gate. This is where you will pay entrance fees…

You only pay if you going to take a game drive  No entrance fee if you are just coming to the lapa

WendyA wrote:As for “plan of attack”, official start time, etc, etc, I guess this depends on what time everyone is planning on arriving. I’m sure there will be some who are there when Rietvlei opens – I know VVV mentioned getting there early and meeting for breakfast at the coffee shop … I won’t get there around midday so propose VVV takes over Chairmanship of the morning’s activities!!!With regards to the lapa, has it been booked? We can all chip in to the cost of this - please can VVV/Mads advise on this . Also, from what time will we be able to use the lapa?

Hi Wendy! Welcome back!

I will pm Vlakvarkvrou regarding the morning's activities, as well as booking of the lapa.

Hi everybody, as we speak I am on Rietvlei on Patrol. I will find out about the lapa tomorrow.. The booking of the lapa is accompied by a compulsary gamedrive. Thus I need to know who is interested in a drive... The nights are REALLY cold already at Rietvlei, Thus I will suggest a drive from 5:30 to 7:30. The cost is R140 pp and children is half price.. I think... Normally the bookings must be done about 2 weeks before hand... I am not sure if it is booked or not... Please indicate who will be interested in a drive...

I know VVV is very busy at the moment.. So let me first find out if the lapa is available.. Please also indicate what time of the day will suite you the best.. Such as morning, midday or afternoon.. I hope to see and meet you all soon...
