Wedding in the bush

Unread post by Bush_baby » Sun Oct 25, 2015 5:58 pm

Hi all,

I was wondering if you could all shed some light on or perhaps give some advice....My partner and I have recently gotten engaged (at Imbali in Kurger). I was the one who introduced him to the magical world of Kruger and since our first trip together we have shared so many special trips/memories in Kruger. My question is we would like a 'bush wedding'. I was wondering if anyone has ever had the ceremony and dinner etc at one of the concessions but the guests stay at a nearby sanpark's camp where the lodge or sanparks provides 'transport'?

Reason I am asking is we both have such large families and people we would like to attend but obviously the concession lodges are quite pricey and we dont want to put any of our guests off.....any suggestions would be greeeaattllyyy appreciated.

Thank you!!

Hi Bush_baby :D what a wonderful way to start your marriage. I wish you a long and happy one. :gflower:

Mopani camp had an events organizer and is the best camp for weddings. They have a conference venue that is suited to host weddings. The accommodation is certainly going to be a lot cheaper than more luxury venues and some hardier bush types can possibly stay at Tzendze. I remember reading more about it in the Kruger Park times about a year ago. They do seem to have an excellent package.

I was almost tempted to go off and find myself a "MR Fox", it looked so good.
The bird doesn't sing because it has answers, it sings because it has a song.

Bush_baby - congratulations!

I love weddings - and how exciting to plan one in Kruger.

Have you tried the contacts here; or perhaps contact the first choice of venue for yourself and see if they provide what you require in terms of transport etc. I would imagine the problem will be permission to drive between camps after gate closing.

One way around it might be to hold the wedding ceremony in a normal Kruger Camp (MM suggested Mopani, there may we others) and that you all stay the night there.

That way all your guests will not have to pay the high costs of the concessions, and you can invite as many guests as you want to share your day.

Then the following day you and hubby can move to one of the concesions for a bit of luxury on your honeymoon!!!

Just a thought....................but hope can sort out something, and have a wonderful time. :gflower:

Hi Bush_Baby
I got married 2 years ago in Berg en Dal, we had about 40 guests.
The ceremony was in the bush, next to a river in the late afternoon, our guests were driven there on safari vehicles from the camp and back again. You could hear the hippos in the backround as we said our vows. :o
We then had the reception in the outside section of the conference venue and had traditional dancers perform as we were not allowed music outside.
It was so lovely and such a special experience for all the guests. Feel free to private message me if you need any info!

You could also consider buying out a smaller camp such as Shimuwini and bringing in an outside caterer or even the company managing the Mopane restaurant.

And so we did it!

My wife and I got married on the Lonely Bull backpack trail on 1 May. And yes the minister and his wife also walked with us, as did four of our best friends.

It was very special and something I thought would not be doable, but we pulled it off and will never forget it.
