Wildkyker wrote:Thanx for everyones reply with the good news of rain.

Its wonderfull to see nature unfolds with the sweet rain falling.
I have also included two night at Shingwedzi and Punda Maria and hope that the rain will continue falling softly so that the water table will fill up.

Hi, Wildkyker

We have received about 30 mm of rain.

Here in the south there are green 'lawns' everywhere as the grass is growing fast. There are also water pans in many places so you are going to have to work harder for sightings as the animals will be more dispersed!

After a very hot day, touching 40C, in Letaba there has been some relief today with some rain. A spectacular rainstorm over the north followed as well.

Yes plenty of overnight rain has given the ground a lovely soft green glow.

Still waiting to see our first impy baby though

Morning Wildkyker :)
If you look at Orpen Cam the ground looks wet - so maybe some rain has fallen in that area?

Sprinkles fell here at Croc Bridge during the night, and now it is trying to rain. There is evidence of rain last week close to the camp, with grass greening, but further away, it is very dry. Sunset dam is the lowest I have ever seen it. And to think that a few months ago when we were last here (March) the park was flooding!

just returned. was in the Pretoriuskop/Satara area
Had some nice rains at Satara and while driving to Pretoriuskop saw numerous streams flowing and pools filled with water in the veld.
Also had some rain at Pretoriuskop and the veld was green already with pools filled with water .
But struck me that the middle/south was more dry/brown then the same time last year.
Still need to rain more.

There has been some rain, and some areas (especially those that were burned) are very green now.

Just got back yesterday from a week - Croc B, Skuk, Balule, skuk. Although it looked like raining regularly, there was only a small amount of rain on tues morning (skuk). Some of the burned areas are looking greenish, but around Satara there are areas that have more recently burned that are still black and ashy! interesting that lots of the little streams between Sat and Balule have water in, but the veld doesn't show it.

Lot's of action on the H10 and around Satara.

There is a huge debate among the parks people as to whether this will be a drought year or not - everybody is reading the "signs" eg elephants breaking into smaller family units ! all I know is there are lots of them so it seems like one big herd !

Been in Shingwedzi for a week now ... about 2.5 drops of rain have fallen despite most days being cloudy. There is a good amount of surface water about still, more in the river all the way down to the Moz border than we have seen in dry months before, but the bush is very dry.

Does anyone know what the official forecast for the summer is?
Does the weather office predict a wet or dry summer?
