You should be fine Kaykay. The gravel roads are fine for normal cars, so your Quantum should be fine. I think it is a good idea to have space for all the passengers and their luggage.

Happy travels!

I have been Krugerparking in many different vehicles over many years , what is the best Image

All the vehicles I have travelled in have made it on any public road in Kruger without any problems ( even went in my mini in the early 80"s" )

I have found that the best game viewing vehicle for Krugerparking is. Image

You will not believe this , but its true Image

I actually once

Image this theory
and concluded that

Any vehicle that has a wheel on each corner - is a good Krugerparking vehicle , it somehow keeps the car level and don't worry or panic, if the wheel goes flat , it will only be flat on the bottom

an engine also helps .

Krugerparking is all about- making the best of the whatever you have or can afford Image

Keep on Sanparking Image

Image before the mods get here Image

And I know all of this because I have a

Image

in talking rubbish and having fun Image

P.S
Not only can I play the fool , I can also play the radio Image
Isn't it just amazing how potatoes give us fries and vodka? :D The rest of the vegetables should get their act together :rtm:

So when is old enough to know better supposed to kick in ? :hmz:

Best minivan for photography

Unread post by Ollie » Sat Aug 06, 2016 11:57 pm

We normally hire a Toyota Fortuna (for the last two visits) and this meets all our space requirements, and all the windows roll down all the way (great for photography and general game viewing). This year we will have a larger group (7) and one option is to hire a mini van. The question is what would the best mini van be for a group this size with windows that open all the way for at least the first two rows? We also considered hiring two vehicles.... although it would be a little easier if we had one. Any advice is welcome.

Ollie,
We had a need for a group of 10 people in 2012 and had some difficulty in getting a minivan with opening windows. We could not get a guarantee from any of the usual companies, so had to use one of the secondary suppliers. Even then, we only had one set of sliding windows on each side of the back seats, and that created some fun when there was a need for them to get some quick photos.

We now have a lot of trouble getting sedans that have rear windows that wind down fully. The modern designs of vehicles have windows that do not wind down completely, and it is really difficult to ensure that the hire car is suitable. The Fortuner is a great vehicle and is best for all round photography, but we find that their diesel engines frighten some of the animals.

Hi Ollie
We were 6 guys that traveled the Park last year in a mini bus and if you are an avid photographer like we were then a mini bus does not work.Only the front window goes down completely-the middle seats have a sliding window and the back seat no windows that open.We had to play roundabout the whole trip of 10 days and some people missed great photo opportunities.A Fortuner is still the best but I suppose only good enough to fit 5 adults comfortably.

Hi Ollie

Have a look at the Toyota Quantum. It has enough space for 7 including luggage and has 6 windows that actually open.

I am not sure if I am allowed to plug a rental company, but I know of at least 1 that offers this vehicle.

Feel free to inbox me, and I can give you the details.
