Boorgatspook-“Aukoerebis”-The Place of Great Noise!-Apr2011

Unread post by Boorgatspook » Tue Apr 12, 2011 11:39 am

Introduction:

The last time I had the opportunity to visit Augrabies National Park was about 13 years ago, and only for a brief hour or two to have a look at the falls. Since the time when I started to visit the national parks regularly, somehow I always went northwards, Kruger National Park. With just a handful visits to the “smaller” parks, like Golden Gate, Table Mountain and Mokala National Park.

So no guess when it was decided to visit my sister for 7 days in Upington, she and the family will have to do without me for 2 days. I had to set the record straight and plans were in the making from the beginning to experience Augrabies first hand after I have read the wonderful trip reports by all who have visited this park.

Only 5 more sleeps before a new world will unfold before my eyes…

Everything are packed and I'm ready.

All thats needed now is to get two nights out of the way and 700 odd kilometer's ! :wall:

Sunday morning (the 17th April) I'll be leaving Upington early heading towards solitude. The two most important items was carefully checked and rechecked:
1) Camera
2) Hiking boots

For the rest, if I did forget something, I can do without

Next time you will hear from me, is hopefully when I'm sitting at a fire while looking up to millions of stars and in the background the night sounds that will smooth my soul and take me along a journey never to be forgotten....

Day 1: 17 April 2011

I left Upington just after 07:30. With a lesure drive and just after about an hour I reached the entrance gate to the park

Image

Entry permit was issued in no time and as the boom openend, I was home again in nature. The anticipation and excitement to explore as far as I could over the next 2 days.

As I made my way to camp, I first stopped to have a look at the mighty Orange river. Still very much impressive and I couldn't help thinking how it must have looked like a few months ago. Check in went smooth and even with the normal check in time for chalets being only at 14:00, I was allowed to take up occupation of chalet # 55 which were not occupied the previous night. Compliments to Dina Titus who were very efficient !

Soon the unpacking was done, and armed with camera it was time to have a look from where the great noise were coming from.

@ Matthys, Miranda said goodbye to the cold Canada winter in 2008 and decided to settle in the most beautiful city in SA, the city they call "City of Roses". Think she was after a love affair but no other Mooses here, so she had to settle for the next second best. A very strict adopted father :naughty:

Since then she was on a few life experience journeys though, and thoroughly enjoying each moment to the fullest. But since this last journey of her's, I believe some serious education are needed. The manners of this little Angel has really disappointed me :rtm:

Thanks Micetta and Vlakvarkvrou

With the sun starting to disappear beyond the horizon it made some spectacular views over the landscape...

All that was left to complete a most fulfilling day, was to lit the braai fire, having a delicious african meal in the bush, and to end the first day, was to look at the moon trying to reveal itself through the clouds around ...

With Miranda taking a siesta, and with no shade outside to sit under, something was brewing :hmz:

So I did the next best thing, cooling down in the chalet with some :cam: of it:

I have booked a night drive, but unfortunately the weather closed in and it was cancelled
