Pertaining to MALARIA and MOSQUITOES, which of the following statements are True and which ones False:

1. It is possible to get malaria in Johanneburg (malaria-free area), despite a resident never having left his city.
2. Malaria may develop more than a year after exposure to a malaria-infected mosquito.
3. If antimalarial pills are taken diligently at the correct dosage and time interval, a visitor to a malarial area will not be infected with the disease.
4. Eating garlic in a malarial area may reduce the chances of contracting the disease.
5. The incidence of malaria in visitors to the Kruger National Park is significantly lower than the incidence in areas surrounding the Park.
6. Only the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito can transmit malaria to the victim; males, however, still bite (although they cannot transmit malaria), but mostly in the daytime.

Interesting one Siobain. Just remember, I'm a simple Boertjie - don't use such big words!

I see OWN is back to his old tricks of half-truths, semi-truths, truths and non-truths...

1. True - Mohamed and the mountain...
2. :hmz: True?
3. False - the meds are not 100%
4. False - you need to eat it long enough before so it is already in your bloodstream to have an effect?
5. :hmz: False?
6. False - first part is true, however the male doesn't bite at all.

How much did I see through your smokescreens OWN? Or should I go get some guarri branches first to kill the fire so I can see?

Clever Bishop.

I am wondering why True or False questions are cropping up in the non-True or False thread? There is a thread designated to these types of questions. Or is it just me? :hmz:

Now why did I write FALSE there? I meant for it to be TRUE, as long as we're speaking South Africa, and don't speak about Mozambicue.

T - It is possible to contract malaria in non-endemic areas, although such cases are rare. So-called "airport malaria", in which travelers contract malaria while passing through crowded airport terminals. As Bishop says, "if the mountain visits Mohamed.

Siobain, please clarify your last answer: either the last is statement is completely true or some part of it is false, which makes the whole thing false.

Bish, I am referring to surrounding areas in South Africa.
