The carmine bee eaters, diedericks cuckoos, yellow billed kites abound. Cute animal babies to be found.
School kids being introduced to the park.

I have just been to Kruger this past December.
No Carmine Bee Eaters, I tihnk it is too early for them.

Middle of the day was very hot. We were in the South - I imagine the North must have been hotter.
But we had a great time.

I was in Kruger last December, first time in the NORTH and it was AWESOME  ... loved every minute of our trip... Was shell shocked when i got down south for one night before heading out back home, man that traffic is worse than peak hour traffic in jozi... :?

For longer stays i will definitely be going up north in future...

I love Kruger in December. The bush is alive with sound. There is an abundance everywhere.

I think this picture was taken on the S1, going towards Phabeni Gate.

Tent dweller, it looks like a great trip!
It will be hot, hot, hot!
If there is a cloudy day, or the sun is late emerging from the clouds, it is more bearable.
But the park is magnificent in its summer colours.

We have been going ot Krugs every December for the past 5 years...
I booked this December for 31 days-it is the best time in the Park.
Babies....
Green bushes....
Water....
And because it is so hot not a lot of people on the roads
We were there 2 weeks end Nov/Dec 5th which was great weather wise, slept under a duvet. And then 21 Dec-5 Jan which had about 3 scorcher days, I drove the whole day in the Park even on those, if the window is open then cool wind blow on you the whole time so it is lekker. Also pack in a lot of water as dehydration can take place and don't forget the sunblock my drivers arm looked like a tomato
We had a few cloudy days and 2 days it was actually drizzling. It was nothing to complain about.

Tent dweller get battery operated fans... I know campmaster has fans like that, huge ones which isn't really expensive. I think the huts can become hot in Dec... :hmz:

Hi Tent dweller

I agree that December isn't unbearable, I find Humidty more of a problem than heat, 3 years ago there had been ALOT of Rain and it was super humid, I just never stopped sweating.

I actually thing the Huts at Balule will be quite cool, they were great at retaining a cool tempreture When I was last there. They all have a decent amount of shade, sadly number 6 has the least. Average temps in December are between 30-35.

Im With Heksie, December is my favourite time in KNP

Hi tent dweller.

We were also in Kruger for 13 days in Dec 2013, and it was our best ever Kruger trip.

We did have a few very hot days stayed in P kop in the huts and in Lower Sabie riverview tents. But most of the time it was quite bearable, any case it can be 80 degrees I will still go to Kurger :D .

This time we saw our most leopard sightings ever in total 5 individual. 8) sightings.

Enjoy your stay.
Balule 29-30 June.
Lower Sabie 1-2 July.

Glory to God.

One day closer to my next visit

Moobox I promise you, some of our best sightings have been in December, also you have the added advantage of seeing all the young impala and other babies that have been born in November and even early December, they are so cute.

In December 2000 we were in Sirheni Bushveld Camp over the festive season until after the New Year of 2001 has started. If was great - the camp was quiet and peaceful, although fully booked, and we almost everyday saw the resident leopard that was there at that stage on to opposite river bank.

May December 2013 be very good to all visitors in Kruger

Added bonus is the extended game viewing times with gate opening and closing time. Camp gates open 4h30 as suppose to 5h30 for the entrance gates which gives you an hour head start on the day visitors.

Hi all

Please help:

My SO and I will be in Kruger for Christmas this year - and never been in KNP on christmas day itself before. We are planning a north to south trip over 2-3 weeks.   Accomodation is running out FAST so must book SOON! This is the question that would really help in planning:

Do you have any ideas/suggestions about which camp to be on Christmas day itself? Or any special activities? Or is it just 'business as usual' on Christmas day? Very happy to jsut treat it like any other day but would love to know if there is anything special?

Thank you in advance for your input! it would be greatly appreciated!!

Regards
Terri

Terri-Lee, Christmas Day in the Kruger is just business as usual, we spent last Christmas in Tamboti, we went for our usual early morning drive, opened our presents when we came back, had breakfast, went for a swim, had a nap, went for another drive then we had our Christmas braai (with all the trimmings), sat and relaxed and then went to bed. This Christmas we will be in Letaba most probably doing something very similar.
