SANParks in dispute with Restaurant operator at Satara, Olifants and Letaba Camps in the Kruger National Park

Unread post by Elsa » Sat Mar 11, 2017 6:06 pm

Following a host of complaints by guests on various social media platforms in relation to the quality of service experienced by guests at Letaba, Satara and Olifants restaurants in Kruger National Park, South African National Parks would like to put it on record that it is in dispute with the operator of former Mugg & Bean outlets at the above mentioned rest camps.

According to SANParks Acting Head of Communications, William Mabasa, SANParks is currently embarking on an arbitration process with the operator in question and is unable to confirm how long will the process take. “But arbitration proceeding are underway.”

He said in an effort to address this challenge and improve service standards for the comfort of our guests booked at the affected rest camp, “SANParks will endeavour to put temporary substitutes particularly during peak times.”

“SANParks management sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience and hopes that your stay in the park will be a memorable one as always,” concluded Mabasa.

We were in Letaba on 2 consecutive days. Day 1 M&B day 2 generic, no M&B. Day 1 good service day 2 terrible and some items out of stock (ham for toasted sandwich and strawberry flavour for shake). Moved to Olifants to find the restaurant in terrible state with bird and animal droppings ALL over tables on veranda, service non existing and unfriendly with also various items out of stock (coffee and strawberry flavour for shake)!!!!! Staff did not want to clean a table for us. We went inside but left after being informed that we can not order basic refreshments. I hope this is resolved rather soon. We were planning to stop off at Satara for breakfast tomorrow on our way to LS :(

The feedback as promised.

Service was good and the food excellent, very tasty and all items (which we selected) were available. Well done SanParks.

The questions that needs answering are: 1. Is it the Staff who are not accepting M&B's rules etc. and are embarking on go slow, unruly action etc., thereby causing us clients to react negatively to food and service or is the management of M&B treating their staff unreasonably? 2. Are these staff members the same ones who also worked for the previous restaurant operator? 3.What were the reasons for that operator not continuing to run the restaurants? 4. Are these staff members the original Sanparks employees who were inherited by the operators? These questions need to be answered honestly as we the paying public have a right to know. If they are the original Sanparks employees and there are still problems, then it can only be that the staff that are causing the problem. It cannot then always be the operator i.e. 1 Sanparks operator 2. Previous operator. 3. Mug& Bean. WHO is therefore at fault?

SANParks’ Dispute With Former Famous Brands Franchisee

South African National Parks (SANParks) said in a statement, the three restaurants in Satara, Letaba & Olifants camps in the Kruger National Park formerly franchised by Famous Brands (Mugg n Bean & Debonairs) are managed by a concessionaire. Due to a dispute between Famous Brands and Ringgold (the Franchisee) and the resulting termination of the agreement between the parties, Ringgold has lost the right to use Famous Brand trademarks in its stores.

According to SANParks, Acting Head of Communications, William Mabasa, SANParks is not party to the issue of the said restaurants between Ringgold and Famous Brands. “SANParks has its own dispute with Ringgold due to its inability to meet its obligations as a concessionaire and the matter is scheduled for arbitration in July 2017. The two matters are therefore parallel processes.”
Mabasa further stated that SANParks has not acceded to any of Ringgold’s future plans for these stores. “This includes changes in the menus and other offerings planned.”

He said should the need arise, SANParks will not hesitate to put temporary substitutes particularly during peak time. “SANParks sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience and hopes that your stay in the park will be a memorable one as always,” concluded Mabasa.
