Question wrt Wilderness Trail from Satara

Unread post by Helsinki » Mon Feb 06, 2017 11:13 am

hi everybody,

we have booked a trail starting from Satara on April 16th. As we are coming from overseas, we arrive at 14th in SA and have one night outside of the Park, one before trail departs in Satara. Afterwards some nights in the Park.
Of course we need to make some enroute shopping in Malelane for these days, but: Is there any possibility to store things like fresh/frozen meat during the 3 nights of the trail?? Otherwise we will not be able to selfcater properly, have to leave the Park for shopping or take the Park Shops Meat as a fallback.

Does anyone know if there is such possibility in Satara?
I already send them an email- but they seem pretty busy and have not replied so far. 8)

Thx and best regards from cold Germany!

Helsinki, I am really not sure if they will be able to store your supplies during the trail.
The shop at Satara is really very well stocked, certainly it was last time I was there which was not all that long ago, so what I might suggest is either have a meal at the restaurants the night before the trail and then once back try and source what you need for the rest of the time in the camp shops.
Unless you hear from them in the interim to the difference.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks Elsa

Yes, I think this will be the backup solution, of course! In Dec/Jan the Shops were well equipped, also with some game..

We have never has a problem leaving frozen goods at the camps when doing trails. At Satara specifically I suggest you discuss it with your trails ranger before you leave for the trail. On previous trails they allowed us to use their freezer in the office. The other alternative would be to approach the shop management and ask if you could leave your cooler box in their freezer facilities at the back. They have always accommodated us. Enjoy
