Luxury Tents at Lower Sabie

Unread post by penolva » Mon Oct 23, 2017 2:31 pm

We stayed in a very 'rustic' River View tent at LS in 2015 and absolutely loved it although it was in quite poor condition. We tried to book it again for next October this morning but with all the problems with the phone lines because of two month bookings by the time we got through only the 'Bush View' luxury tent was available. We took that in the hope of a cancellation for a river view during the next 11 months. Looking on some reviews however it seems not all the tents have been refurbished and some photographs looked horrendous as they have obviously deteriorated even further since our visit.

Can anyone tell me if the renovations of the tents are completed, if the Bush View ones are worth having or should we try for a perimeter bungalow if we can get one online tomorrow or again look for cancellations. We had such a great time with our rustic tent last visit we are obviously disappointed to miss out but we got everything else we wanted after trying different phone numbers for an hour. Great help in the end from the Cape Town office. Even have 3 nights best view cottage in Biamati :) Thanks Pen

Penolva, as far as I understand the tents are all to be upgraded and renovated to the luxury ones now.
I don't think they are even renting the others out if there are any still to be done, due to multiple and ongoing complaints re the condition of them.

They do look lovely and I think keep an eye on availability for a river view one which might become open due to a cancellation.

Thank you so much Elsa for the reply. I am glad they are not renting out the ones waiting for renovation. I will keep a look out in case the river view ones suddenly come on line as I notice that there are none available for months and months in the future which seemed very odd. You have given me some hope!! :gflower:

Pen, there is literally only 1 river view tent currently (and 5 bush view tents)... and with the high demand you'd be VERY lucky to get a night there.
When we were there early August, renovation work was taking place on a cluster of river view tents, I would say about 4 of them.

Just to confirm, the old tents are not available due to their state, yes. Only the baboons hang around there.

Thank you for the update and I guess we are lucky to have three nights in one of the bush view ones after all. I will keep checking to see if the new river view ones come on line, you never know!

Morning Marge,
We stayed in Unit 66 EH4 in April. They are a great option, have cutlery pots etc. Not too far from the communal kitchen. Next time I would take my own kettle, and an extension cord as the plugs in the kitchen area are a bit high up the wall. We also plugged in our own light in the kitchen area, as it was a bit dark. I would highly recommend your staying in the EH4's

Thank you coxell for the info and advice

They are great value for money and have been tempted in the past to try one of these units The only thing that puts me off is that they all seem to be so close together and looking like little rooms lined up together with not too much privacy

Hopefully I am wrong :D
