It should be interesting to see how the Braai Monument at Tshokwane looks like :D

Tshokwane Transformed

Unread post by Andy M » Sat Oct 01, 2016 8:54 pm

It has happened!
Tshokwane.
A Kruger icon and arguably one of the most visited and popular picnic spots, frequented by both local and interntional visitors, has morphed into the 'Tshokwane Trading Post and Picinic Spot'.
What an awsome transformation.
The Tourvest team have done an excellent job by transcending Tshokwane into a venue that will become a 'Must visit' spot and I am sure that will be loved by all that knew the 'old' Tshokwane.
This morning Jesscan1 and I immediately fell in love with the concept of what Tshokwane was in days gone by.
Tshokwane has been transformed into today's version of the respite that the period travellers would look forward to after the long trek between Skukuza, Lower Sabie and Satara.
The yellowed pages of history have been turned back to the glory days of the trading post when weary travellers were joyed at the prospect of arriving at the staging post.
I can just imagine the ladies and gents of yesteryear relaxing with tin mugs of tea or 'moer' koffie while relaxing on the opulent couches outside the store while their provisions were being replenished.
The pictorial essay that follows is a short glimpse of what one can expect when 'outspanning' at the 'Tshokwane Trading Store and Picnic Spot'.
Photos and collage courtesy of Jesscan1 will follow tomorrow when we have access to stable internet.

The Vervet Monkeys are still a problem, especially when people feed them. The staff try their best to keep the monkeys at bay. Until silly people decide to feed them.

I can't believe how many people we saw feeding the monkeys, which then causes havoc, as once one was fed, about 15 other monkeys arrived and one even stole a chocolate flake straight out of a child's hand.

They definitely need signs to say "Please DO NOT feed the monkeys".

Maybe even a hard-worded education poster telling people WHY they shouldn't feed the monkeys.

Breakfast was delicious and very reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly, courteous and eager to please.

The Trading Post shop and Picnic Spot is an absolute delight and a "must see"

The attention to detail is excellent and there are a variety of little knik-knacks and different products available.

Well done to the Tourvest company and all the staff and helpers who worked so hard to create a super environment.

Thanks to AndyM and Jesscan1 for this update.

Tshokwane has indeed been re-imaged
and definitely is on our must see KNP list when we visit in 2017.

 A plea for 'do not feed the monkeys' signs as they are very annoying at the picnic sites.
Perhaps a catapult needs to be hung on the wall like the big spoons

Now Tshokwane has set the bar for other picnic sites.

Thanks KNP and Sanparks

WOW..It looks amazing. Huge thanks Andy for taking so many photos to show us all what a tremendous transformation has taken place here. Will definitely be calling in as we head north next month.

As for the idiots who were feeding the Vervets...words fail me. We will all be devastated if this causes all the problems which the site had before. Can these morons not be fined on the spot?
