Bushbuddies has given sound advice.

You will probably find that a lot of people are searching the trees with their torches before they retire to bed. It has such a special atmosphere.

Tents 1-4 are the furthest from the ablutions. If you wish, you can request one of the closer tents.

All good advice.
There are metal "cages" on the stoep of the tents that enclose the fridge as well. Food stored in a plastic container inside those, or in the tent (keep the door closed and latched at all times, baboons and monkeys can be sneaky) will be fine. If you want, invest in a small padlock to lock the "cage" (but not neccessary i.m.h.o).
We stayed in no 2 about 2 weeks ago; no moon, so the walk to the ablutions was interesting (about 200 metres to negotiate).
Our neighbors in no 1 left their belongings in plastic containers on the stoep during the first night there....we were awoken around midnight by the ruckus when the baboons arrived and helped themselves...

That must have been very scary at that time of night.
I didn't think baboons moved around at night.
I guess a midnight feast was irresistible.

I have also stayed in number 2. It is not for the feint hearted. I think number 8 and number 23 are my favorites. Not too far from the ablutions. This meanderer has utmost respect for Tambotie.

Thanks again for the advice! There didn't seem any way of asking for a specific tent on the online booking system. Should I phone them? It will be an international call for me, but it sounds as though it could be well worth it.
For half a century I looked for an excuse to visit Africa and finally said to my son "Let's just go." Never regretted it, and about to return for my third trip to Kruger.

RondaGreen, take your hot water bottle, you will use it every night, not just at Tamboti.

ok, my hot water bottle is now in my bag, along with arm clothes. Should I also take a sleeping bag, or are adequate blankets provided?

There are extra blankets supplied. I found that I really needed them. If you are alone, you can use three blankets. I also slept with my woolen cap on and thermal underwear and bed socks.

As I stated in an earlier post, I did hit an exeptionaly cold night and it was minus six degrees after sunrise.

Leo, you can either call or send an e-mail to the camp, in Tamboti's case its to Orpen camp.

Leo, I think that I have. It was either eight or nine. :hmz: It is rather well situated, quite close to the ablutions and kitchen area. All the tents have views, so that is never a problem in Tambotie.

Leo, I have stayed at Tambotie many times and experienced many tents. I think this might be when I stayed in that area. It is the little path leading to the tent.
