Self Drive Route Recommendations

Unread post by bocorcorain » Thu Feb 23, 2017 1:38 pm

Hello we will be staying 3 nights in Kruger.
First night will be at Skukuza - arriving in time to do the sunset drive.
We will then stay the following 2 nights in Lower Sabie before heading to Nelspruit airport for around 3pm. It has already been recommended to leave Lower Sabie early and drive down to Malelane gate on the tar roads and then on to the airport on that day.

What I am wondering is what routes would people recommend to see as much as possible
From Skukuza to Lower Sabie - thinking maybe to head towards Pretoriuskop on the H1-1 - then back to the H3 before heading across to Croc Bridge and up to Lower Sabie - is this feasible?

From Lower Sabie - H10 to H1-2 to H4-1 back to LS ( Or should this be split into 2 days)?
If 1 day is Ok for this?

If not how would you best split the amount of time I have in that area of the park?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

Hi bocorcorain

When will you be in the park?

I am not one for planning routes prior to getting to the park, as you might hear of a great sighting, or feel like a short drive and a bit of time in camp etc - I tend to go with how I feel on the day.

I do think when you are in Lower Sabie you spend some time driving 'south' towards Croc Bridge. I also thing you should try and vary your routes over the time you are in the park so that you get to see as much of the park. You cannot go wrong doing any of the routes you have mentioned.

I plan routes in advance, then replan & then replan again.
So in the end it has changed so many times - there is no plan!

Having said that, every time I stay at LS, I do the H4-2/S28 loop to Croc Bridge and back
