Status of Afsaal after May 2016 shutdown

Unread post by winnydpu » Sun Nov 13, 2016 1:12 am

I loved seeing the pictures of the new Tshokwane. Wasn't Afsaal shut down for kitchen rework at the same time? What is the status of Afsaal in November? At one time that was my favorite picnic stop, but it seemed that every year something else would be missing. The wagon, the owl, things from the shop, most of the menu items, even the outdoor fire for kuduwors/pap

I hope that this rebuilding will help Afsaal to regain the greatness it once had. We are en route in six days- can't wait to see what I'll find.

Visit Afsaal the past week and a while ago also; I think the kichen /menu/service are on the spot and according to the personnel they plan to do even more.The shop is still a bit under park standards. I think we must give them a bit more time.Stop for a bite and visit ?yes I think the menu is already a huge improvement. :thumbs_up:

O! while we stop there last Monday it was raining (30mm) and the Cappuccino was very good... :clap:

I have also read very good reviews lately with high praise for the food.

spydr wrote:Take a leaf out of Afsaal's business plan. That seems to be the best picnic spot in the park nowadays. They bake their own roosterkoek with a range of fillings, or as part of a tasty breakfast. They have a bigger variety on their menu that not only caters for foreigners and a much better price range - not everything is so expensive. We were even able to buy some plain take-away roosterkoek to go with our own braai back at the camp.

Afsaal Hours

Unread post by safarigal » Mon Sep 04, 2017 7:32 pm

I have looked on the website and cannot find the hours that Afsaal operates (food service). We were wondering if we leave Berg en Dal at 5:30 am and did an approx. 2 hour game drive, would Afsaal be open to serve breakfast????? Yes I know we can make our own breakfast there too and we will, but we would also like to try their roosterkoek one morning. Please could someone help with their trading hours for me.

Remember ... they make their living out of people doing exactly what you are describing.

Their hours reflect the movement of visitors.

They will be open.

I was reading the post on this subject and think that it might be that you still need a bit more info ,well , better late than never;
i.r.o. trading at Afsaal or for that mater " breakfast time " it is important to remember;
- most of the personnel enter at Malalane-gate and start preparing about 07h00.
- About 80% of the OSV's operating South visit Afsaal between 09H00 and 10H00 , not a big problem but could be a bit overcrowded.
- The fresh roosterkoek(braai bun) is about ready just before 09h00 and I think that will be the case with other freshly prepare food. But on the other hand that is still good game spotting time and no time for a picnic
-The toilets are open from very early.
Ps.I think if somebody from the staff read this, they must post the time frame, because there is also a close down time in the afternoon. This times might also be important for other picnic places.
and
yes ,we are also very positive about Afsaal presently.
Happy day's :cam: :thumbs_up:
