You can have a look under the Webcam "room" some of the regular visitors to the cams even have names.

Mods Please help I don't know how to put the link in here to the thread.
I live in my own little world. But it's okay they know me here.

If you spend a lot of time watching the cams you will recognize the different animals if you don't know what kind of species it is just post it in the following Topic  and we are always willing to help you. 8)

The small blurry ones are often Black Backed Jackals

Live webcam player HTML5

Unread post by alex71 » Thu Oct 17, 2013 4:26 pm

Hi,

There is no Flash on mobile devices (Android, IPad, Iphone), so I am unable to view the Cams on my mobile devices.
Are there plans to change the live Webcam Player to HTML5 ?

Sincerely yours

Alexander

Re: Questions & Comments about the cams

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask, but here goes!!

I have ADSL with fast connection, and I have always been able to view the live cams.

However since I got my new laptop a few weeks ago, I cannot view any of the live cams...............just keep getting a black screen and that annoying buffer icon.

Can anyone help please!!!

Good place to ask, Val
Just before I ask the gurus, please test and see if you can open and view Addo live cam.

Hi alex,

Yes there is :) Thats the short answer.

We have to re-do the streaming portion from the server that handles the encoding as we originally did it in a codec that is not supported.

Hi,

You can see one but not the other two live cams?

What browser are you using?

Also - can you confirm that Addo IS working and the other two arent?

Hi Everyone

Like Crested Val I also experience problems viewing the live cams. I have fast and reliable broadband and use Internet Explorer.

I can usually view the Addo live cam (which is great because I love to see the ellies and that giant tortoise!) but I am never able to view Satara and only get Orpen now and then. Deleting the cache and so on doesn’t help.

It has been like this with Satara since it came online. Sometimes I get Orpen but then seem to get pushed out and can never reconnect/restart no matter what I do. There have been a few occasions when I thought I was looking at Orpen live (the image was moving etc) but I was a bit suspicious when I thought I had seen the exact same thing twice and when I compared the live cam view I was seeing with what was on the still cams (and also posted on the highlights) it appeared that I was actually just looking at a “pre-recorded” loop, as the views simply weren’t the same. Sorry if that doesn’t make sense, I don’t know how else to explain it. The same thing also happened (just the once) when I thought I was looking at live images on the Satara live cam but on that occasion too I was simply viewing what had occurred in the past.

It is very disappointing. I do of course view the still cams but it would be marvellous if I could get Satara and Orpen live cams, sometimes at least. I often wonder if these problems occur simply because so many people are trying to view the cams.

Can anyone in the know explain why this "technical difficulty" is taking weeks to rectify?

Its a problem with the generator, have a look here.

saraf,

Surely this cannot be a generator problem. If so it means Nossob visitors are without fuel and electricity for 3 weeks. The food in the shop fridge / freezers gone off and no changes can be done on the booking system.

No spot light at the hide either. I cannot believe this is possible as Upington is a mere 6 hours drive away in case the maintenance plan is run to failure. However I doubt that SANParks will follow that strategy. :hmz:

If it is an electronic failure on the camera a courier should not take more than a day to delivery. I've received a packet from Maun, Botswana within 18 hours and I am not even in a major city but 2 hours east of Jo'burg.
