Hi Guys,
I have been watching the forum for a while but have not posted anything yet so here goes my first public post and thought it appropriate to post it here in the cammers section.

I went to Addo Park yesterday, Sun 31 Sep 2010. It is lovely and green after the recent rains. I tried to photograph the Brownhooded Kingfisher on its perch where it can normally be seen on the webcam but I had no luck .

I did however manage to get a photo of it sitting on the fence next to the hide.

Image

Here in this photo in the top r/h corner can be seen where it can normally be seen perched on the webcam

Yes the camera is on top just behind where the birds like to perch.

When I go out to Addo again I will take a few pics of the area and see if I can get a shot of the camera. :cam:

A view from the lookout at the Addo Main Camp. The webcam and hide is situated under the greenery on the bottom left of the pic. Elephant can be seen at the waterhole and returning to feed up on the hillside.

Hi Guys :)

Thanks to all for the kind words

Here are some pics that were taken in 2004 long before the hide was built.

The hide is built to the left of the pole with the flood light.
Maybe just off to the left of the pic

Hi All,

I spent the day out at Addo yesterday Sun 7 Nov, what a brilliant day I had, :D :D :D the weather was perfect and I saw large numbers of ellies and buffs.   The Park is looking so nice and green. They have all moved to the Woodlands and Gorah areas. Because of the rains we have had there are pools of water all over the Park that they are using and for this reason nothing happening on the webcam. :( :(

Here are some pics of the webcam as promised :cam:

Ronnie, I've been away for the weekend (and hardly had any internet connection on top of it  ), so I missed your wonderful ellie shots. Thanks for posting them!

Also, thanks for giving us a feel for the hide! Must say, it really looks nice there.
*note to myself: You need to return to Addo.*

Thanks LS.for your kind words.

The hide is very nice but I do find that it is too low down. :( As can be seen from my pics it looks like the bottom of the ellies feet are cut off. :( The mound of soil just in front of the hide is too high not allowing one to see the waters edge and what's happening at the back. The floor of the hide should of been built higher, there is enough space in there to raise the floor, the ceiling is high. What can be done now to correct this is to either raise the floor or lower the mound of soil in front of the hide and I really hope that this will be done because it will be a big improvement.

Hi Guys,

When I went out to Addo on Sun it was my intention to get a pic of the Brownhooded Kingfisher ( Kibo ) sitting on his perch as seen on the webcam on most evenings. :cam:

So after I came out of the game camp at 6.30 pm, that is when the gates close I went straight to the hide to wait for Kibo. Alas what should happen the battery of my camera said that it had enough and went flat. :( The only option that I had was to use my mobile/cell phone;s camera. I tested it and saw that the image would not be too great but had no option and so there I sat and waited.

It was after 7pm when all of a sudden I saw a bird shadow in the floodlight and I looked up at the perch and THERE was Kibo. I moved slowly with my phone and snap :cam: I had my pic of Kibo, not good but there it was. I looked at the time of the pic, 7.15 pm

I was wondering whether this moment would be on the webcam and if someone had saved the highlight and how thrilled I was when I had a look at the webcam highlights and there Kibo was, the time 7.15 pm exactly.

The highlight had been saved by JoyceW. Thank you very much

Here is the highlight

Thanks JJ

You have no idea how excited I was

What are the odds of that happening, the two pics at the same time and then to have someone save the webcam as a HIGHLIGHT !!!!!!!!
